21. Quasi-Phasematched nonlinear processes in KTiOPO4 isomorphs
Abstract : This thesis explores the use of nonlinear crystals from theKTiOPO4(KTP) family with the aim to extend the possibleapplications for laser sources and to gain more knowledge aboutthe materials benefits and limits. The work focussed onoptical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametricamplifiers (OPAs), which employ second order nonlinearprocesses. READ MORE

22. Liquid crystalline polymers for nonlinear optics : pyroelectric polymers and ferroelectric dendrimers
Abstract : This thesis deals with liquid crystalline materialsincluding monomers, side-chain polymers, crosslinked polymers, and dendrimers. The materials are pyroelectric, meaning thatthere is a macroscopic electric polarization in the material, which is energetically stable in the absence of externalfields. READ MORE

23. Tailored fiber lasers and their use in nonlinear optics
Abstract : The objective of this thesis work was to develop tailored fiber lasers, which meet the pump requirement for efficient continuous-wave (cw) frequency conversion to the visible and the mid-infrared wavelength regimes: a stable, high-power, wavelength-tunable, narrow-linewidth output in a single polarization. As a first step, the prospect of tuning ytterbium fiber lasers over an unprecedented wavelength range, from 980nm to 1100nm, was investigated. READ MORE

24. Mitigation of nonlinear fiber distortion using phase conjugation
Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of fiber-optic communication systems that mitigate nonlinear distortion due to the Kerr effect by transmitting a phase-conjugated copy alongside the signal followed by coherent superposition. This kind of communication systems are referred to as phase-conjugated twin waves systems when the phase-conjugated copy is transmitted on the orthogonal polarization. READ MORE

25. Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Media and Photonic Crystals
Abstract : The present thesis is devoted to theoretical studies of pulse propagation of light through linear and nonlinear media, and of light-induced nuclear dynamics. The first part of the thesis addresses propagation of light pulses in linear periodical media - photonic crystals. READ MORE
