  1. 1. Nonlinearly Perturbed Renewal Equations : asymptotic Results and Applications

    Author : Ying Ni; Dmitrii Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Mats Gyllenberg; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nonlinearly perturbed renewal equation; perturbed renewal equation; nonlinear perturbation; non-polynomial perturbation; perturbed risk process; perturbed storage process; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we investigate a model of nonlinearly perturbed continuous-time renewal equation. Some characteristics of the renewal equation are assumed to have non-polynomial perturbations, more specifically they can be expanded with respect to a non-polynomial asymptotic scale. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mitigation of nonlinear fiber distortion using phase conjugation

    Author : Henrik Eliasson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fiber-optic communication; nonlinear optics; phase conjugation; phase-sensitive amplifiers;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the study of fiber-optic communication systems that mitigate nonlinear distortion due to the Kerr effect by transmitting a phase-conjugated copy alongside the signal followed by coherent superposition. This kind of communication systems are referred to as phase-conjugated twin waves systems when the phase-conjugated copy is transmitted on the orthogonal polarization. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nonlinear intrachannel distortion in high-speed optical transmission systems

    Author : Pontus Johannisson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; all-optical regeneration; nonlinear optics; fiber optics; self-phase modulation; cross-phase modulation; ghost pulses; intrachannel four-wave mixing; timing jitter;

    Abstract : The Kerr nonlinearity in optical fibres tends to generate signal distortion in dispersion-managed fibre-optic communication systems. Within a wavelength channel, the resulting intrachannel effects are timing jitter, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Multi-Meson Dynamics in Chiral Perturbation Theory

    Author : Mattias Sjö; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spridningsamplituder; Effektiv Fältteori; Spontant symmetribrott; Ickelinjära sigmamodellen; Kirala Lagrangianer; Hadronspektroskopi; Strukturer och Interaktioner; Gitter-QCD; Scattering amplitudes; Effective Field Theories; Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking; Nonlinear sigma model; Chiral Lagrangians; Hadronic Spectroscopy; Structure and Interactions; Lattice QCD;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns scattering of light mesons in the case where the number of external particles exceeds four (that is, three or more particles in the initial or final state), calculated using chiral perturbation theory.This is both of theoretical interest in the study of scattering amplitudes, and relevant for systems of three or more pions simulated using lattice quantum chromodynamics. 5. 5. Asymptotic analysis of solutions to elliptic and parabolic problems

    Author : Peter Rand; Vladimir Kozlov; Mikael Langer; Vitali Liskevich; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymptotic behaviour; The Emden-Fowler equation; Parabolic system; Spectral splitting; Cylinder; Perturbation; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : In the thesis we consider two types of problems. In Paper 1, we studysmall solutions to a time-independent nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation of Emden-Fowler type in a semi-infnite cylinder. The asymptotic behaviour of these solutions at infnity is determined. First, the equation under the Neumann boundary condition is studied. READ MORE
