  1. 16. Studies on Vitamin A Signaling in Psoriasis : A Comparison Between Normal and Lesional Keratinocytes

    Author : Teresa Karlsson; Jan Öivind Moskaug; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Psoriasis; vitamin A; retinoids; retinoid receptor; differentiation; keratinocyte; skin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Abstract : Vitamin A and metabolites (retinoids) are crucial for normal epidermal maturation. Physiological effects are mediated by retinoic acid (RA) that activates nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs) in complexes with retinoid X receptors (RXRs), resulting in altered gene transcription.Psoriasis is a common disease with unknown etiology. 2. 17. Lactobacillus iners and the normal vaginal flora

    Author : Tell Jakobsson; Urban Forsum; Lars Fåhraeus; Per-Göran Larsson; Ingegerd Adlerberth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vagina; microbes; lactobacilli; phenotypic methods; molecular biology; 16S rRNA; pyrosequencing; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi;

    Abstract : The ecological niche of the vagina contains a large number of different microbes that are constantly interacting with each other and the host. Culture methods have not been sufficient in order to resolve the complexity of the normal vaginal flora. READ MORE

  3. 18. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Author : Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 4. 19. Spin transport in normal and superconducting nanowires

    Author : Ninos Poli; Vladislav Korenivski; Mark Johnson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Todays conventional electronic devices are based on electron charge transport in semiconductor channels. Spintronics is a rapidly emerging technology, which exploits the spin degree of freedom as well as the charge of the electrons. READ MORE

  5. 20. Stochastic Models Involving Second Order Lévy Motions

    Author : Jonas Wallin; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on five papers (A-E) treating estimation methods for unbounded densities, random fields generated by Lévy processes, behavior of Lévy processes at level crossings, and a Markov random field mixtures of multivariate Gaussian fields. In Paper A we propose an estimator of the location parameter for a density that is unbounded at the mode. READ MORE
