  1. 1. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Pregnancy : Prenatal Exposures and Pregnancy Complications

    Author : Heiddis Valgeirsdóttir; Anna-Karin Wikström; Inger Sundström Poromaa; Theodora Kunovac Kallak; Marie Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Polycystic ovary syndrome; PCOS; pregnancy; epidemiology; prenatal exposures; pregnancy complications; Anti-Müllerian hormone; AMH; preterm birth; stillbirth; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of fertile age. The aetiology of PCOS is not fully understood and might be affected by foetal exposures. Women with PCOS have an increased risk of pregnancy complications, but information on rare severe complications is scarce. READ MORE

  2. 2. Antibodies during pregnancy : Aspects on complications during pregnancy and complications related to transfusion

    Author : Miodrag Palfi; Olof Sjöberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Pregnancy; Thl; Th2; hernolytic disease of the newborn; anti-D; IgG subclasses; IgG transport; post-transfusion reactions; acute lung injury; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The fetus acquires half of its genetic infonnation from the father and represents a foreign graft in pregnancy. The overall mechanisms contributing to immunologic tolerance and successful pregancy still are an enigma. Accumulating results of immunologic research, however, offer an explanation for many events in pregnancy. READ MORE

  3. 3. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY

    Author : Karl Kristensen; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; Obstetrics; pregnancy; renal function; serum amyloid A protein; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; preeclampsia; beta-2 microglobulin; C-reactive protein; cystatin C; inflammation; placenta; beta trace protein; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 4. 4. Immunomodulation during human pregnancy : placental exosomes as vehicles of immune suppression

    Author : Ann-Christin Stenqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Maria Jenmalm; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The mammalian pregnancy comprises a challenge to the maternal immune system since the fetus is semi-allogeneic and could thus be rejected. Pregnancy success is associated with the placenta that is not only essential for oxygen supply, nourishment and pregnancy hormones but also plays a role in the protection of the fetus against maternal immunologic attack. 5. 5. Oxidative Stress, Angiogenesis and Inflammation in Normal Pregnancy and Postpartum

    Author : Maria Palm; Ove Axelsson; Samar Basu; Charlotta Grunewald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; inflammation; IL-6; F2-isoprostanes; oxidative stress; Pentraxin 3; PGF2α; PlGF; pregnancy; sFlt1; TNF-α; VEGF-A; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The aims were to investigate oxidative stress (I), angiogenesis (II) and inflammation (III-IV) in healthy women during pregnancy and postpartum. Oxidative stress was estimated by measurement of 8-iso-PGF2α and the antioxidants α- and γ-tocopherol. READ MORE
