  1. 21. Population-based studies of higher-level gait disorders and hydrocephalus : focused on brain ventricular morphometry and patient outcomes following shunt surgery

    Author : Jenny Larsson; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Hanna Israelsson Larsen; Lars-Owe D. Koskinen; Uwe Kehler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Higher-level gait disorder; Idiopathic Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus; Ventriculomegaly; Falls; Fear of Falling; Self-efficacy; Depression; Quality of life; Adverse events; Headache; Epilepsy; Abdominal pain;

    Abstract : Background: To study gait is of great importance for the health of the aging population. Higher-level gait disorders (HLGD) are characterized by a slow, symmetrical, unsteady gait. Its cause is most often unknown. HLGD in combination with ventriculomegaly (i. READ MORE

  2. 22. White matter pathology in normal pressure hydrocephalus and subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy. Clinical, CSF and MRI aspects

    Author : Mats Tullberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Normal pressure hydrocephalus; Subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy; MRI; White matter changes; Cerebrospinal fluid; Sulfatide; Neurofilament protein;

    Abstract : Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy (SAE) are common causes of gait disturbance, cognitive impairment and urinary incontinence in the elderly. In spite of a primarily different pathogenesis with a potentially reversible CSF dynamic disturbance in NPH and an irreversible microangiopathy in SAE, patients with NPH and SAE can present with similar symptoms and exhibit white matter changes that are difficult to distinguish, constituting a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. 3. 23. Deriving biomarkers from computed tomography using deep learning

    Author : Meera Srikrishna; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CT; MRI; convoluted neural networks; deep learning; Dementia; Alzheimer s disease; Normal pressure hydrocephalus; brain segmentation;

    Abstract : X-ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are widely used structural neuroimaging modalities. For brain atrophy assessment and volumetric quantification using automated methods, MRI is the preferred modality due to its superior soft tissue contrast. READ MORE

  4. 24. Fluid biomarkers of extracellular matrix remodelling across neurological diseases

    Author : Karolina Minta; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s disease; biomarker; extracellular matrix; idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; immunoassay; mass spectrometry; radiation-induced brain injury; traumatic brain injury; vascular dementia;

    Abstract : Neurological diseases constitute a major health and socioeconomic issue. Despite an enormous amount of research going on globally, the prevalence and mortality of neurological disorders are still rising. READ MORE

  5. 25. Cerebral CT - and MRI perfusion: Techniques and clinical application in iNPH

    Author : Doerthe Ziegelitz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cerebral perfusion; idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; computed tomography perfusion; dynamic suceptibility contrast MRI;

    Abstract : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a disorder of the elderly, defined by slowly progressive impairment of gait and balance, cognitive decline, and incontinence. Disturbance of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics results in ventriculomegaly without intracranial pressure increase. READ MORE
