  1. 1. Between the Paths of Modernity : The European Commission’s Shaping of European Nuclear Energy Policy between 1999 and 2012

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Julia Schwabecker; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sustainable development; European Union; nuclear energy; environmental policy; energy policy; frame analysis; reflexive modernization; Hållbar utveckling; EU; kärnkraftspolicy; miljöpolicy; energipolicy; frame analys; reflexiv modernisering;

    Abstract : A powerful symbol of modernity, in its early days, nuclear energy was associated with images of progress and dreams of a better life. At the start of the European process of integration, it was hoped that peaceful cooperation in nuclear matters would bring about lasting peace in the European continent. READ MORE

  2. 2. Energy consumption transition : final household energy consumption in the case of Sweden 1920-2010

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Mikael Levin; Umeå universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; households; energy transition; energy consumption; residential; electrical appliances; Carbon dioxide; emission; ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis examines households’ final energy consumption over the long run by measuring their final energy use and examining how structural, institutional and economic factors affected the demand for energy in the residential sector during the period 1920-2010, a period covering the transition from traditional to fossil to renewable energy carriers. I believe that wider understanding of the historical energy transition and energy consumption within the residential sector might help us gain important insights into the long-run development and the factors affecting energy consumption among the households. 3. 3. Increasing the hosting capacity of distributed energy resources using storage and communication

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Nicholas Etherden; Luleå tekniska universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Renewable Energy Generation; Energy Storage; Hosting Capacity; Curtailment; Demand Response; Dynamic Line Rating; Power System Communication; Smart Grid; Technology - Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Förnyelsebara energikällor; Energilagring; Acceptansgräns; Kommunikation i kraftsystem; Smarta elnät; Teknikvetenskap - Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The use of electricity from Distributed Energy Resources like wind and solar powerwill impact the performance of the electricity network and this sets a limit to theamount of such renewables that can be connected. Investment in energy storage andcommunication technologies enables more renewables by operating the networkcloser to its limits. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nuclear Power as a Climate Change Mitigation Option: a Modelling Approach

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Mariliis Lehtveer; [2014]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CCS; sensitivity analysis; nuclear weapons proliferation; energy system model; nuclear power; climate change;

    Abstract : Although nuclear power can provide electricity with very low life cycle carbon emissions and thus reduce the cost of climate change mitigation, it also brings along many specific challenges: accident risk, need for radioactive waste management and nuclear weapons proliferation risk. Due to this controversial nature nuclear power, among other energy forms, has been relatively little studied in a climate mitigation context. READ MORE

  5. 5. Studies of Accelerator-Driven Systems for Transmutation of Nuclear Waste

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Marcus Dahlfors; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; transmutation; accelerator-driven systems; Energy Amplifier; subcritical reactors; nuclear waste; Monte Carlo simulation; burnup; actinides; fission products; benchmark; nuclear data; neutron cross sections; sensitivity analysis; neutron source; spallation target; n_TOF experiment; neutron time-of-flight; cross section measurement; FLUKA; EA-MC; MCNP; MCNP-X; EADF; TRADE; Kärnfysik; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Nuclear physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times.
