  1. 1. Characterizing Chromatography Media : NMR-based Approaches

    Author : Fredrik Elwinger; István Furó; Stéphane Viel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatography; nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; self-diffusion; magic-angle spinning; quantitative; distribution coefficient; pore size; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Liquid chromatography is an essential technique in manufacturing biopharmaceuticals where it is used on all scales from analytical applications in R&D to full-scale production. In chromatography the target molecule, typically a protein, is separated and purified from other components and contaminants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and applications of NMR relaxation methods to study protein and ligand dynamics

    Author : Sven Wernersson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; NMR relaxation; Method development; Protein dynamics; BRD4; Galectin 3; Kärnmagnetisk resonansspektroskopi; proteindynamik; Metodutveckling; NMR; BRD4; Galektin 3;

    Abstract : This thesis involves the study of proteins. These molecules exist in many variants, and perform most of our bodily functions. This includes signaling (for example the presence of capsaicin, which makes food spicy), molecular transport (including oxygen), catalysis (including food digestion) and part of our body structure (such as muscles). 3. 3. Conformational Entropy and Protein Flexibility in Drug Design Studied by NMR Spectroscopy

    Author : Carl Diehl; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MMP-12; Galectin-3; confomational entropy; order parameters; ITC; Protein dynamics; isothermal titration calorimetry; macrophage elastase; nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR;

    Abstract : Proteins are complex molecules, present in all of the vital functions of life. The function of a protein is regulated by interactions between protein and other molecules. Drug design in pharmaceutical science aims to regulate the function of a protein by the design of synthesized molecules that binds to a protein with high affinity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structure determination of ribosomal proteins and development of new methods in biomolecular NMR

    Author : Magnus Helgstrand; KTH; []
    Keywords : nuclear magnetic resonance; structure determination; ribosomal proteins; NMR simulations; NMR theory; NMR assignment software; semiautomatic assignment;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns different areas of biomolecular nuclearmagnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). In the first part of thethesis a new formalism for simulations of NMR pulse sequencesis introduced. The formalism is derived both from classicalmechanics and quantum mechanics and is presented forhomonuclear and heteronuclear spin systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy

    Author : Carina Dahlberg; István Furó; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Michael Schuleit; Jadwiga Tritt-Goc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug.
