  2. 2. Nuclear Dynamics in X-ray Absorption and Raman Scattering

    Author : Ivaylo Minkov; Faris Gelmukhanov; Knut Borve; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray scattering; theory; simulations; recoil; Doppler effect; nuclear dynamics; Auger; XPS; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents theoretical studies of several x-ray spectroscopies - x-ray absorption, x-ray photoelectron emission, radiative and non-radiative resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main focus point is investigating the influence of nuclear dynamics on these spectra for a variety of small molecules - naphthalene, biphenyl, ethylene, the water dimer, HCl, CO. READ MORE

    Abstract : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times. 4. 4. Three-nucleon forces in nuclear physics simulations

    Author : Tor Djärv; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; configuration interaction; many-body physics; nuclear physics; three-nucleon forces; normal ordering;

    Abstract : The aim of this licentiate thesis is to evaluate the normal-ordered two-body (NO2B)-approximation as a computationally promising way to incorporate realistic three-nucleon forces (3NFs) in nuclear many-body simulations using the no-core-shell-model. The existence and importance of 3NFs is predicted in chiral effective field theories of the strong-nuclear force. READ MORE

  5. 5. Neutron induced light-ion production from iron and bismuth at 175 MeV

    Author : Riccardo Bevilacqua; Stephan Pomp; Magnus Wolke; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Light-ions (protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α articles) production in the interaction of 175 MeV neutrons with iron and bismuth has been measured using the Medley setup at the The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL) in Uppsala. These measurements have been conducted in the frame of an international collaboration whose aim is to provide the scientific community with new nuclear data of interest for the development of Accelerator Driven Systems, in the range of 20 to 200 MeV.
