  1. 1. Investigations into the distribution and function of nucleobindin 1

    Author : Paul Williams; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The nucleobindin proteins (NUCB1 and NUCB2) are both characterised by DNA- and calcium-binding motifs. The functionality of these motifs has been demonstrated, but has not yet led to the identification of a role for either protein. READ MORE

  2. 2. Novel non-collagenous modulators of biomineralization in bone and dentin

    Author : Eszter Somogyi-Ganss; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Calreticulin; nucleobindin; prothrombin; biomineralization; osteogenesis; dentinogenesis;

    Abstract : The formation of mineralized tissues such as bones and teeth is governed on many levels by molecular, genetic, and cellular events to culminate in terminally differentiated cells that secrete a specialized organic matrix, which is later mineralized through the coordinated deposition of calcium phosphate crystals. The formation of this hard tissue phase is tightly regulated by components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), since deviations from this equilibrium result in prevalent, debilitating health problems such as arthritis, vascular calcification, periodontal disease and osteoporosis. 3. 3. Studies on three matrix molecules in bone and dentin

    Author : Ulrika Petersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Osteoadherin OSAD ; Nucleobindin Nuc ; Calreticulin CRT ; biomineralization; osteogenesis; dentinogenesis;

    Abstract : The biomineralization of bone and dentin is a complex and dynamic process, involving the formation of an organic framework in which mineral crystals are deposited. The noncollagenous proteins (NCPs) of the organic phase play a central role in the extracellular matrix (ECM) organization and mineralization regulation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diabetes pathogenesis : role of natural killer cells, T cells and a novel neuropeptide

    Author : Hanna Brauner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a major health problem affecting nearly 5% of the population world wide. It is a heterogeneous group of diseases with the autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the metabolic type 2 diabetes (T2D) being the major types. READ MORE

  5. 5. Distribution and connectivity of messenger molecules in the control of energy metabolism : focus on neuropeptides and calcium binding proteins

    Author : Kylie S Foo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Feeding is an essential and complex behavior which aims to provide the energy required for maintaining physiological homeostasis. The drive to feed is a powerful stimulus arising from metabolic demands, and reinforced by evolutionary pressure. READ MORE
