  1. 1. Nucleotide-binding Proteins in the Plant Thylakoid Membrane

    Author : Sophie Heurtel Thuswaldner; Cornelia Spetea Wiklund; Bengt Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plant; Arabidopsis; photosynthesis; thylakoid membrane; nucleotide-binding; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Life on Earth is dependent on the oxygen produced through photosynthesis. The thylakoid membrane is the site for the light-driven reactions of photosynthesis, which oxidize water and supply energy in the form of ATP, mainly for carbon fixation. The utilization of ATP in the lumenal space of the thylakoid has not been considered in the past. READ MORE

  2. 2. NMR studies of protein dynamics and structure

    Author : Jörgen Ådén; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Michael Sattler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR; protein dynamics; relaxation; protein folding; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; biokemi; Biochemistry; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Enzymes are extraordinary molecules that can accelerate chemical reactions by several orders of magnitude. With recent advancements in structural biology together with classical enzymology the mechanism of many enzymes has become understood at the molecular level. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular targets of HAMLET, their role in tumor cell death and therapeutic potential

    Author : Aftab Nadeem; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer therapy; colon cancer; bladder cancer; cell death; HAMLET; alpha-lactalbumin; oleate; membrane lipids; nucleotide-binding protein; Ras GTPases; alpha-helical peptides;

    Abstract : Protein-lipid complexes have broad and specific effects against cancers of different origins. HAMLET (Human Alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells) is a complex of partially unfolded α-lactalbumin and oleic acid that kills a wide range of tumor cells but leaves healthy differentiated cells unaffected. 4. 4. Insights Into Protein Synthesis - Structural Aspects of Elongation Factor G and Fusidic Acid Inhibition

    Author : Sebastian Hansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molekylär biofysik; Structure chemistry; Strukturkemi; Molecular biophysics; Biologi; Biology; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; conformational change; fusidic acid; protein synthesis; elongation factor G; crystal structures;

    Abstract : Elongation factor G (EF-G) catalyses the translocation step in protein synthesis on the ribosome. During this event the antibiotic Fusidic acid (FA) binds to and irreversably inhibits the release of the EF-G:GDP complex from the ribosome. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural rearrangements of actins interacting with the Chaperonin systems TRiC/Prefoldin and GroEL/ES

    Author : Laila Villebeck; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Bente Vestergaard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; chaperonin mechanisms; bound target protein; fluorescence resonance energy transfer FRET ; Actin; abundant eukaryotic protein; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis are mainly focused on the effects that the chaperonin mechanisms have on a bound target protein. Earlier studies have shown that the bacterial chaperonin GroEL plays an active role in unfolding a target protein during the initial binding. READ MORE
