16. Industrial energy efficiency improvement – the role of policy and evaluation
Abstract : At EU and to a varying degree at Member State (MS) level, industrial energy efficiency improvement (EEI) is considered an attractive means for reaching political objectives of different dimensions, not least environmental. For energy-intensive manufacturing industry in particular, EEI can lead to cost reductions, improved profitability and competitiveness. READ MORE

17. The Politics of Ceasefires : On Ceasefire Agreements and Peace Processes in Aceh and Sri Lanka
Abstract : In recent decades we have seen an increase in peace processes aimed at solving armed conflicts through peaceful means. The often fragile characteristics of such processes and the settlements that they produce underline the essential importance of improving our understanding of the dynamics at play in transitions from war to peace. 18. Theoretical and numerical studies of sound propagation in low-Mach-number duct flows
Abstract : When sound waves propagate in a duct in the presence of turbulent flow, turbulent mixing can cause attenuation of the sound waves extra to that caused by the viscothermal effects. Experiments show that compared to the viscothermal effects, this turbulent absorption becomes the dominant contribution to the sound attenuation at sufficiently low frequencies. READ MORE

19. Frequency Domain Linearized Navier-Stokes Equations Methods for Low Mach Number Internal Aeroacoustics
Abstract : Traffic is a major source of environmental noise in modern day's society. As a result, the development of new vehicles are subject to heavy governmental legislations. The major noise sources on common road vehicles are engine noise, transmission noise, tire noise and, at high speeds, wind noise. READ MORE

20. Consensus Algorithms for Trees and Strings
Abstract : This thesis studies the computational complexity and polynomial-time approximability of a number of discrete combinatorial optimization problems involving labeled trees and strings. The problems considered have applications to computational molecular biology, pattern matching, and many other areas of computer science. READ MORE
