  1. 16. A numerical study of two-fluid models for dispersed two-phase flow

    Author : Reynir Levi Gudmundsson; Björn Sjögreen; Anders Petersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Numerical analysis; two-phase flow; two-fluid mode; well-posedness; numerical experiments; Numerisk analys; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : In this thesis the two-fluid (Eulerian/Eulerian) formulation for dispersed two-phase flow is considered. Closure laws are needed for this type of models. We investigate both empirically based relations, which we refer to as a nongranular model, and relations obtained from kinetic theory of dense gases, which we refer to as a granular model. READ MORE

  2. 17. Large eddy simulation of cavitating and non-cavitating flow

    Author : Tobias Huuva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high Reynolds number; Cavitation; turbulence; RANS; hydrodynamics; numerical simulation; modelling; DES; LES;

    Abstract : Most marine configurations are subject to a number of complex and important hydrodynamic phenomena affecting the overall performance of the vessel, both regarding resistance and propulsive efficiency. In this thesis, the possibility of numerically simulating some of these phenomena is investigated. READ MORE

  3. 18. Numerical Modelling of Self-Compacting Concrete Flow : Discrete and Continuous Approach

    Author : Annika Gram; Johan Silfwerbrand; Ali Farhang; Mette R. Geiker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SCC; rheology; Simulation of Flow; Simulering; Flöde; Självkompakterande Betong; Reologi; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : With the advent of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) that flows freely, under the soleinfluence of gravity, the wish for hassle-free and predictable castings even in complexcases, spurged the simulation of concrete flow as a means to model and predictconcrete workability. To achieve complete and reliable form filling with smoothsurfaces of the concrete, the reinforced formwork geometry must be compatible withthe rheology of the fresh SCC. READ MORE

  4. 19. Numerical Simulation of Unsteady Flows of Physiological Relevance

    Author : Philip Evegren; Institutionen för energivetenskaper; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wall shear stress; Biofluid mechanics; Pulsatile flow; Atherosclerosis; Flow in bifurcations;

    Abstract : Pulsatile flows in geometries of physiological relevance have been investigated. Atherosclerotic plaques are (initiated) near junctions and bifurcations in larger arteries. The flow in these regions is characterized by flow separation and unsteadiness, which indicates that local flow conditions contribute to atherogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 20. Three-Dimensional Simulation and Physical Modelling of Flows in Detention Tanks - Studies of Flow Pattern, Residence Time and Sedimentation

    Author : Åsa Adamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tracer study; pond; numerical simulation; particle tracking; CFD; bed shear stress; storage tank; stormwater; detention tank; flow pattern;

    Abstract : Improving effluent water quality to receiving waters using stormwater ponds and storage tanks is acknowledged to be an effective method. The performance of the method depends however on flow conditions such as velocity distribution, short-circuiting currents and the volume through which the influent water flows, the so called effective volume.
