  1. 1. Ghosts and machines regularized variational methods for interactive simulations of multibodies with dry frictional contacts

    University dissertation from Umeå : Datavetenskap

    Author : Claude Lacoursière; Umeå universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Discrete mechanics; Variational method; Contact problems; Impacts; Least action principle; Saddle point problems; Lagrange Multipliers; Constrained systems; Multibody Systems; Numerical regularization; Constraint realization; Constraint stabilization; Dry friction; Differential Algebraic Equations; Nonsmooth problems; Linear Complementarity; Quaternion algebra; Numerical linear algebra; Physics modeling; Interactive simulation; Numerical stability; Rigid body dynamics; Dissipative systems; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Other physics Computational physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Övrig fysik Beräkningsfysik;

    Abstract : A time-discrete formulation of the variational principle of mechanics is used to provide a consistent theoretical framework for the construction and analysis of low order integration methods. These are applied to mechanical systems subject to mixed constraints and dry frictional contacts and impacts---machines. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical Computations with Fundamental Solutions

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Per Sundqvist; Uppsala universitet.; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fundamental solution; partial differential equation; partial difference equation; iterative method; preconditioner; boundary method; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Two solution strategies for large, sparse, and structured algebraic systems of equations are considered. The first strategy is to construct efficient preconditioners for iterative solvers. The second is to reduce the sparse algebraic system to a smaller, dense system of equations, which are called the boundary summation equations. READ MORE

    Abstract : The biological functions of proteins depend on their physical interactions with other molecules, such as proteins and peptides. Therefore, modeling the protein-ligand interactions is important for understanding protein functions in different biological processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tools for Control System Design Stratification of Matrix Pairs and Periodic Riccati Differential Equation Solvers

    University dissertation from Umeå : Print & Media, Umeå universitet

    Abstract : Modern control theory is today an interdisciplinary area of research. Just as much as this can be problematic, it also provides a rich research environment where practice and theory meet. This Thesis is conducted in the borderline between computing science (numerical analysis) and applied control theory. READ MORE
