16. Direct numerical simulations of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow
Abstract : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow that is induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented are mostly limited to linear instabilities derived from direct numerical simulations (DNS) but with the objective that further work will focus on the nonlinear regime, providing greater insights into the transition route to turbulence. 17. Low Frequency Impact Sound in Timber Buildings : Simulations and Measurements
Abstract : An increased share of construction with timber is one possible way of achieving more sustainable and energy-efficient life cycles of buildings. The main reason is that wood is a renewable material and buildings require a large amount of resources. READ MORE

18. Numerical Simulations of the Urban Microclimate
Abstract : As global urbanization is accelerating and the majority of the world's population continues to reside in cities, sustainable urban development is becoming increasingly crucial. Evaluation of the urban microclimate is a vital aspect of planning sustainable cities, as it can significantly impact on the health and comfort of urban residents. READ MORE

19. Numerical Accident Reconstructions : A Biomechanical Tool to Understand and Prevent Head Injuries
Abstract : Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a major health and socioeconomic problem throughout the world, with an estimated 10 million deaths and instances of hospitalization annually. Numerical methods such as finite element (FE) methods can be used to study head injuries and optimize the protection, which can lead to a decrease in the number of injuries. READ MORE

20. The rotating-disk boundary-layer flow studied through numerical simulations
Abstract : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow thatis induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented include bothwork in the linear and nonlinear regime and are derived from direct numerical sim-ulations (DNS). READ MORE
