  2. 2. Stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow

    Author : Per-Olov Åsén; Gunilla Kreiss; Jonathan Goodman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic stability; plane Couette flow; pipe Poiseuille flow; direct numerical simulations; resolvent; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the stability of plane Couette flow and pipe Poiseuille flow in three space dimensions. The mathematical model for both flows is the incompressible Navier--Stokes equations. Both analytical and numerical techniques are used. We present new results for the resolvent corresponding to both flows. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental and numerical investigations of hydrodynamic focusing of colloidal dispersions

    Author : V. Krishne Gowda; Fredrik Lundell; Daniel Söderberg; Lynn Walker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; flow focusing; colloidal fiber dispersion; effective interfacial tension; microflow morphology; nanoparticle orientation; Mikrofluidik; flödesfokusering; kolloidala dispersioner; effektiv ytspänning; mikroflödesmorfologi; orientering av nanopartiklar; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). READ MORE

  4. 4. Predicting the sound field from aeroacoustic sources on moving vehicles : Towards an improved urban environment

    Abstract : In a society where environmental noise is becoming a major health and economical concern, sound emissions are an increasingly critical design factor for vehicle manufacturers. With about a quarter of the European population living close to roads with heavy traffic, traffic noise in urban landscapes has to be addressed first. READ MORE

  5. 5. Topology optimization of transitional flows

    Author : Harrison Nobis; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Paolo Luchini; KTH; []

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the application of topology optimization in thedesign of structures that control fluids. A framework is developed in the high-order Spectral Element Method (SEM) code Nek5000, extending Nek5000 fromits original capabilities, performing Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS), toperforming density-based topology optimization.
