1. Nutrient recovery from waste streams through struvite formation
Abstract : Eutrophication or the nutrient enrichment of water bodies, typically by nitrogen and phosphorus has adversely affected the aquatic life and the quality of water. Governments have been forced to take actions in order to reduce the release of these nutrients into the environment. READ MORE

2. Ash transformation in thermochemical conversion of different biomass resources with special focus on phosphorus
Abstract : A great potential exists for increasing the use of bioenergy in thermochemical processes by utilizing agricultural biomass, forest residues, and sewage sludge that have high availability. Many of these biomass assortments have high ash contents with relatively high concentrations of ash-forming elements such as potassium (K), calcium (Ca), silicon (Si), and phosphorus (P). READ MORE

3. Water level management of wetlands in response to current and future RCP climate change scenarios : A mesocosm experiment within climate control chambers
Abstract : Wetlands are integral components of our natural environment since they provide many critical ecosystem services to humanity, such as water purification, climate change mitigation, flood control, and biodiversity. Although wetlands can convey resilience to some degree of changes, they might be vulnerable to climate change. READ MORE

4. Long-term development, modeling and management of nutrient loading to inland and coastal waters
Abstract : Environmental and water system protection and restoration require accurate knowledge and quantification of waterborne pollutant transport, retention-release and transformation processes taking place in the subsurface, river, lake and sea water systems, and at the interfaces between these systems. This thesis investigates the importance of spatial model resolution for such quantification and the possible long-term nutrient load development under different human perturbations and nutrient source management scenarios in the Swedish Norrström drainage basin, based on simulations with the GIS-based dynamic nutrient transport-attenuation model POLFLOW. 5. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer
Abstract : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. READ MORE
