7. Energy Quality Management for Building Clusters and Districts Using a Multi-Objective Optimization Approach
Abstract : As society develops, energy needs and the warnings of global warming have become main areas of focus in many areas of human life. One such aspect, the building sector, needs to take responsibility for a significant portion of energy use. Researchers need to concentrate on applying innovative methods for controlling the growth of energy use. READ MORE

8. Evolutionary Materialism: Towards a Theory of Anticipatory Adaptive Assemblages
Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into how meta-heuristic multi-objective optimisation processes (genetic algorithms driven by evolutionary solvers) can bring about materials-related advantages in architectural performance. It redefines the architect’s and engineer’s role from being designers of a singular space or structure to being designers of entire species of spaces, and discusses a particular method – anticipatory adaptive assemblages (AAA) – that allows such processes to produce many generations of design iterations that eventually yield individuals optimised for a set of predefined objectives. 9. The Balance of Meaning : Exploring the possibility of a recognition-transcendent meaning of religious and existentially important terms
Abstract : Can we be mistaken or ignorant about the meaning of our own words? This dissertation explores this question. More specifically it investigates to what extent and in what sense, if at all, the semantic meaning of religious and existentially important words – like ‘God’, ‘friendship’, ‘justice’ or ‘life’ – can be recognition-transcendent to the competent user of them. 10. Addressing the complexity of sustainability-driven structural design: Computational design, optimization, and decision making
Abstract : Being one of the sectors with the largest environmental burden and high socio-economic impacts sets high requirements on the construction industry. At the same time, this provides the sector with great opportunities to contribute to the globally pursued sustainability transition. READ MORE
