    Abstract : Background: Bisphosphonates are first-line treatment for osteoporosis, but osteoporosis is considered an undertreated disease. The general aim of this dissertation was to further study the benefits and harms of bisphosphonates. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ultrasound measurement of cervical length in the second trimester of pregnancy for prediction of preterm delivery

    Author : Pihla Kuusela; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preterm delivery; transvaginal ultrasound; cervical length measurement; second trimester; prospective study; observational study; mass screening; reproducibility of results; inter-observer variation; intra-observer variation; data accuracy; quality control;

    Abstract : Abstract Background: Short cervical length is a risk factor for preterm delivery (PTD) and screening of cervical length using transvaginal ultrasound in the second trimester is a proposed method to find women at risk Aims: To examine the potential value of routine measurement of cervical length in a Swedish population of women with singleton pregnancies in the prediction of PTD. To estimate inter- and intra-observer agreement and reliability of cervical length measurements. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Author : Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 4. 4. Design and analysis with observational data : Protocols and modeling with the aim of causal inference

    Author : Paulina Jonéus; Mattias Nordin; Per Johansson; Jenny Häggström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; observational studies; protocols guidelines; epidemiology; public health; prostate disease; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of six papers that study the design and analysis with observational data.There is a growing interest in using real-world evidence (RWE) for regulatory purposes. The belief is that observational data can make drug developmentmore efficient and speed up patient access to new drugs. READ MORE

    Abstract : The efficacy and safety of antihyperglycaemic drugs have been evaluated in one American and one British randomized clinical trial, which have given contradictory results. The positive results of the latter may be more convincing as it included a greater number of patients and as its duration was longer. READ MORE
