  1. 1. Interventions for increased physical activity among office workers

    Author : Viktoria Wahlström; Lisbeth Slunga-Järvholm; Tommy Olsson; Therese Stenlund; Fredrik Öhberg; Andreas Holtermann; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; sedentary behavior; office workers; office design; intervention; treadmill workstation; objective measurements; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : The positive association between physical activity (PA) and health is well established. Technical developments in modern life have created major changes in our societies and working life, and a growing body of research has identified sedentary behavior (SB) as an independent risk factor for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer as well as for premature mortality. 2. 2. Office illness : the worker, the work and the workplace

    Author : Berndt Stenberg; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The work started with the clinical observations in patients working in buildings with indoor air problems. Signs of seborrhoeic dermatitis, erythematous facial skin conditions and itching conditions on the trunk were noted. Another point of departure was the attribution of facial skin symptoms to VDT work by patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Author : Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS). Abstract : The lifetime trajectories of movement behavior and cognitive functioning depend on complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors. There is substantial evidence suggesting that physical activity benefits cognitive functions. However, how sedentary behavior and the composition of movement behaviors (i.e. READ MORE

    Abstract : Background: Modern society is triggering sedentary behaviours in different domains. Different strategies can be used to reduce the time spent sitting and increase physical activity in the office environment, which is one domain where sedentary time is often high. One such strategy could be to install treadmill workstations. READ MORE
