6. Factors influencing the turnover of olfactory receptor neurons
Abstract : The olfactory system has a striking capacity for neuronal plasticity throughout life and the olfactory epithelium is able to generate both neuronal and non-neuronal cells in the normal adult animal as well as after experimental injury. In contrast to primary sensory neurons, olfactory axons are able to cross the border between the PNS and CNS in the olfactory bulb after transection in the adult animal. READ MORE

7. Chemical signalling in the Drosophila brain : GABA, short neuropeptide F and their receptors
Abstract : Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and short neuropeptide F (sNPF) are widespread signalling molecules in the brain of insects. In order to understand more about the signalling and to some extent start to unravel the functional roles of these two substances, this study has examined the locations of the transmitters and their receptors in the brain of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster using immunocytochemistry in combination with Gal4/UAS technique. 8. Regulatory mechanisms in olfactory system assembly and function
Abstract : The mammalian sense of smell relies on the detection of odorants by a large family of G protein coupled receptors, encoded by ~1300 different genes in mice (Buck and Axel, 1991; Zhang et al., 2007). These odorant receptors (ORs) are expressed in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) in the main olfactory epithelium (MOE). READ MORE

9. The Gene Repertoire of G protein-coupled Receptors : New Genes, Phylogeny, and Evolution
Abstract : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is one of the largest protein families of mammalian genomes and can be divided into five main families; Glutamate, Rhodopsin, Adhesion, Frizzled, and Secretin. GPCRs participate in most major physiological functions, contributing to the fact that they are important targets in drug discovery. READ MORE

10. Drosophila Sensory Neuroethology
Abstract : Animals, like humans, need to perceive their surroundings via their senses in order to make sensible behavioral decisions, reproduce successfully, and survive. Animals are equipped with audition, vision, thermosensation, hygrosensation, mechanosensation, magnetoception, gustation, and olfaction, which detects physical and chemical changes in their habitats.
