  1. 11. Structure and Dynamics in Amphiphilic Bilayers: NMR and MD simulation Studies

    Author : Tiago Ferreira; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were employed to study molecular structure and dynamics in amphiphilic bilayers. This thesis reports on method development and practical applications to two types of bilayer systems: simple cell membrane models composed of phosphatidylcholine lipids and cholesterol; and liquid crystals composed of ethyleneoxide-based surfactants often used in technological applications and in fundamental studies of amphiphile self-assembly. 2. 12. "Walking in the Spirit" : The Complexity of Belonging in Two Pentecostal Churches in Durban, South Africa

    Author : Kristina Helgesson; Jan-Åke Alvarsson; Lars Hagborg; Rijk van Dijk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Cultural anthropology; Pentecostalism; phenomenology; belonging; South Africa; time; space; home; gender; hope; fear; balance; control; apartheid; anthropology of religion; Kulturantropologi; Cultural anthropology; Kulturantropologi; Cultural Anthropology; kulturantropologi;

    Abstract : Drawing on anthropological fieldwork carried out in the two Pentecostal congregations Red Hill and Olive Tree in Durban, South Africa, this dissertation discusses the complexity of the experience of belonging among the members. Red Hill is a ‘coloured’ congregation, while Olive Tree is ‘white’; a fact that in present-day South Africa still is of significance for the experience of belonging. READ MORE

  3. 13. In vitro Bioaccessibility of Carotenes: Influence of microstructure in tomato and carrot as modified by processing

    Author : Cecilia Svelander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; α-carotene; in vitro bioaccessibility; high-pressure homogenisation; carrot; in vivo bioavailability; Caco-2 cell model; blanching; processing; Lycopene; β-carotene; tomato; microstructure;

    Abstract : Carotenes are a group of fat-soluble pigments in many fruits and vegetables associated with several important biological effects, like protection against the development of some forms of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The carotene bioavailability in plant foods, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 14. ALPHA-LINOLENIC ACID Postprandial Lipid Metabolism and Enzymatic Interesterification of Triacylgylcerols

    Author : Julia Svensson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alpha-linolenic acid; triacylglycerol; postprandial lipemia; Lipozyme TL IM; interesterification;

    Abstract : An important indicator of the metabolic capacity of humans is the ability to regulate plasma triacylglycerol levels and to clear triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) from the circulation after a meal. This is crucial since most of the day is spent in the postprandial state. READ MORE

  5. 15. Cholestasis in infants at risk

    Author : Jonas Teng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cholestasis is a condition when bile flow from the liver to the intestines is impaired. Unresolved, it may lead to liver transplantation or death. Overall, it affects 1 out of 2500 term infants, but is far more common in high-risk infants with other conditions such as prematurity and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). READ MORE
