11. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis : aspects of pathogenesis and risk
Abstract : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased prevalence and severity of atherosclerosis, and a corresponding increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms causing this are not well elucidated, but both traditional cardiovascular risk factors and RA-associated factors have been associated with atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular events in patients with RA. 12. Anti-TNF therapy in rheumatoid arthritis. Effects on and predictors of work disability
Abstract : Objectives: To study: (I) work-loss seen as sick leave and disability pension before and after the start of first anti-TNF therapy in Swedish regional and national RA cohorts; (II) baseline predictors of a good future work prognosis at diagnosis and after anti-TNF start with a special focus on the impact of the disease activity level and the disease duration at treatment start. Methods: RA patients were identified in the regional biologics register in Southern Sweden, SSATG, the national register over RA patients, SRQ, and the national biologics register, ARTIS, and linkage was performed to the Social Insurance Agency Register for day-level data on sick leave and disability pension. 13. Studies on the relationship between periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis
Abstract : Periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are both widespread multifactorial diseases, characterized by chronic inflammation leading to tissue and bone destruction around teeth or joints, respectively. An association between periodontitis and RA has been proposed, suggesting that the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. READ MORE

14. Early rheumatoid arthritis aspects of severity and co-morbidity
Abstract : Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic progressive destructive joint disease with an increased risk for co-morbidity and premature death if untreated. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death but also other co-morbid conditions contribute to the patient’s shorter life expectancy. READ MORE

15. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation
Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates.
