1. Microstructure and Wear of CVD Coatings used in Metal Cutting Applications
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the microstructural characterisation of wear resistant Al2O3 and Ti(C,N)coatings produced by chemical vapour deposition on cemented carbide cutting tools. The investigation focuses on the effect of deposition conditions on the microstructure and the microstructural evolution of the coatings during heat-treatments and metal cutting. READ MORE

2. Effects of Antioxidant and Lipid Lowering Treatment on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease : With special reference to Mixed Tocopherols and Stable Fish Oil
Abstract : Vitamin E in food, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and lipid lowering treatment with statins have been found to decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiac death. However, clinical trials revealed no beneficial effect of intake of alpha-tocopherol alone. READ MORE

3. Atom Probe Field Ion Microscopy of Surface Zones, Coatings and Interfaces
Abstract : This thesis is focused on developingmethods for high resolution microanalysis of coatings on a substrate, andsurface zones of a bulk sample using atom probe field ion microscopy,APFIM. The APFIM technique is described and some examples of its applications to semiconductors, cemented carbides and intermetallic compounds are given. READ MORE

4. Dietary intake of naturally occurring plant sterols in relation to serum cholesterol and myocardial infarction - Epidemiological studies from Sweden and the UK
Abstract : Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death in the world. High serum level of cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for CVD development. Serum levels of cholesterol can be modified by diet. READ MORE

5. Source and drain engineering in SiGe-based pMOS transistors
Abstract : A new shallow junction formation process, based on selective silicon etching followed by selective growth of in situ B-doped SiGe, is presented. The approach is advantageous compared to conventional ion implantation followed by thermal activation, because perfectly abrupt, low resistivity junctions of arbitrary depth can be obtained. READ MORE
