  1. 1. Driver-centred Motion Control of Heavy Trucks

    Author : Kristoffer K D Tagesson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Driver behaviour; active safety; torque feedback; heavy trucks; motion coordination; steering by braking; oncoming collision; electronic stability control; active steering;

    Abstract : Traffic accidents constitute one of the leading global causes of death. Deadly traffic accidents occur, even in countries that have implemented far-reaching countermeasures, at a rate that cannot be tolerated. Improved safety of heavy trucks is an important remedy, as these vehicles are involved in a large part of all fatal accidents. READ MORE

  2. 2. Vehicle Dynamics Control for Active Safety Functions using Electrified Drivelines

    Author : Adithya Arikere; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; driver assistance systems; intersection accidents; torque vectoring; optimal control; rear- end collisions; speed control; active safety; vehicle dynamics; electrified drivetrain; obstacle avoidance with oncoming traffic;

    Abstract : Studies have shown that even considering pledges and commitments made by various governments and organisations, the growth in electrified vehicle sales is likely to be insufficient to reduce CO2 emissions for mitigating global warming. Some form of added incentive is needed that can help drive electrified vehicle sales in the open market. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards computational models for road-user interaction: Drivers overtaking pedestrians and cyclists

    Author : Alexander Rasch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active safety; vulnerable road users; cyclist safety; driver models; interaction models; overtaking; Euro NCAP; driver behavior; Pedestrian safety;

    Abstract : Introduction: Crashes resulting from a failed interaction between drivers and vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians or cyclists, can lead to severe injuries or fatalities, especially after failed overtaking maneuvers on rural roads where designated refuge areas are often absent, and impact speeds high. This thesis contains two studies that shed light on driver interaction with either 1) a pedestrian or 2) a cyclist, and oncoming traffic while overtaking. READ MORE

  4. 4. Understanding and modelling car drivers overtaking cyclists: Toward the inclusion of driver models in virtual safety assessment of advanced driving assistance systems

    Author : Jordanka Kovaceva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; traffic safety; overtaking manoeuvres; cyclist; naturalistic data; safety benefit;

    Abstract : The total number of road crashes in Europe is decreasing, but the number of crashes involving cyclists is not decreasing at the same rate. To help car drivers avoid or mitigate crashes while overtaking a cyclist, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) have been developed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Making overtaking cyclists safer: Driver intention models in threat assessment and decision-making of advanced driver assistance system

    Author : Prateek Thalya; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cyclist; Euro NCAP; Overtaking; ADAS; Driver intention; Interaction;

    Abstract : Introduction: The number of cyclist fatalities makes up 3% of all fatalities globally and 7.8% in the European Union. Cars overtaking cyclists on rural roads are complex situations. Miscommunication and misunderstandings between road users may lead to crashes and severe injuries, particularly to cyclists, due to lack of protection. READ MORE
