1. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 2. A sub-5 fs 100 TW optical parametric synthesizer
Abstract : State-of-the-art ultrashort light sources in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions provide direct access to the femtosecond realm, thereby enabling understanding and control of electronic processes within matter. On the other hand, ultra-intense light pulses lead to the emergence of relativistic electron motion and many related phenomena, such as electron & ion acceleration and high-order harmonic generation in plasmas. 3. Pneumococcal vaccination in inflammatory rheumatic disease and in splenectomy patients. From antibody response to memory cells
Abstract : Objectives:The overall aim of the dissertation is to examine antibody response to immunization with pneumococcal vaccine in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease (IRD), in relation to disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) treatments, and in postsplenectomy patients. Methods:(I) Splenectomized patients without previous pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) immunization were invited to receive one dose 13-valent PCV (PCV13). 4. Infectious immunity and pneumococcal vaccine responses in multiple myeloma and related disorders
Abstract : Multiple myeloma (MM), Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (WM), and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are B cell conditions associated with suppressed immune functions and susceptibility to infection. Severe pneumococcal disease is common not least in MM patients and vaccination is considered important, although the protective efficacy is debated. READ MORE

5. Optical parametric amplification with periodically poled KTiOPO4
Abstract : This thesis explores the use of engineered nonlinear crystals from the KTiOPO4 (KTP) family as the gain material in optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), with the aim to achieve more knowledge about the benefits and limitations of these devices. The work aims further at extending the possible applications of OPAs by constructing and investigating several efficient and well performing amplifiers. READ MORE
