  1. 1. Beneficial Use of Stormwater - Opportunities for urban renewal and water conservation

    Author : Edgar Villarreal-Gonzalez; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik; offshore technology; hydraulic engineering; Civil engineering; water conservation; rainwater collection; Best Management Practices; Urban stormwater; green-roofs; open drainage systems;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the beneficial use of stormwater in Swedish urban environments. The focus has been on open stormwater systems for source control, as well as rainwater collection systems. To analyse the implementation of open stormwater systems, two case studies are presented: Augustenborg in Malmö and Bäckaslöv wetland in Växjö. READ MORE

  2. 2. Blue-green stormwater systems for citywide flood mitigation : Monitoring, conceptualization, modeling, and evaluation

    Author : Salar Haghighatafshar; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; blue-green measures; drainage system; flooding; flood mitigation; hydrodynamic modeling; rainfall-runoff; stormwater;

    Abstract : Considering the growth in urbanization, leading to an increase in impervious surfaces, and the changing climate, enhancing the intensity and frequency of rainfall events, existing urban drainage networks—separate or combined sewer systems—are presumed to face substantially elevated hydraulic loads, causing pluvial floods in urban areas. There are several ways to address these challenges. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sustainability performance of blue-green infrastructure across seasons and with various designs

    Author : Pär Sagrelius; Godecke-Tobias Blecken; Maria Viklander; Erik Glaas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) affect societal development within multiple sectors, both strategically and at street level. For instance, SDG 6 and SDG 11 have contributed to a shift in urban stormwater management that has traditionally been pipe-based, including only control of runoff volumes, to a more multi-functional nature-based blue-green infrastructure (BGI), where"blue" areas are characterized by (temporarily or permanent) open water and "green" areas by vegetative systems. 4. 4. Coastal livelihoods : A study of population and land-use in Noarootsi, Estonia 1690 to 1940

    Author : Hele Kiimann; Tom Mels; Peeter Maandi; Göran Hoppe; Ulf Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Noarootsi; Estonia; cartographical analysis; interdisciplinary study; soil cover change; landscape history; coastal peasants; Estonian-Swedish; feudal manor system; land reform.;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how the inhabitants formed the coastal landscape of northwest Estonia through both internal change and external impact by estate owners, provincial government and imperial decrees. Two villages on the largely Swedish populated Noarootsi peninsula, Einbi (Enby) and Kudani (Gutanäs), are examined in detail. READ MORE

  5. 5. Urban Snowmelt Processes: Modelling and Observation

    Author : Annette Semadeni Davies; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; energy; runoff; snow properties; heterogeneity; hydrological modelling; Urbanisation; snowmelt; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : In northern Scandinavia and other cold regions, urban drainage systems are often unable to cope with the high volumes of melt water which can be sustained for several weeks. High waste water treatment plant inflows, combined system overflows and low water quality are a few problems associated with snowmelt. READ MORE
