  1. 16. Environmental filtering of bacteria in low productivity habitats

    Author : Inga Richert; Stefan Bertilsson; Annelie Wendeberg; Lise Øvreås; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; environmental filtering; diversity; ecosystem service; hydrocarbon utilization; Southern Ocean; sediment; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : Microbes fulfill important ecosystem functions by contributing as drivers of global nutrient cycles. Their distribution patterns are mainly controlled by environmental heterogeneities. So far, little is known about the mode of action of particular environmental drivers on the microbiota, particularly in low productivity habitats. READ MORE

  2. 17. Modelling of  Ocean Wave Energy Conversion for Increased Power Absorption

    Author : Tatiana Potapenko; Irina Temiz; Cecilia Boström; Sandra Eriksson; Felice Arena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Earth is also called the blue planet, because more than 70 % of its surface is covered by water, mainly in oceans and seas. Wind blowing over the oceans is creating water waves, which can travel thousands of kilometers with just a small energy loss. READ MORE

  3. 18. Spiritum sidus : The star of our life – On internal tides in the ocean

    Author : Gaspard Geoffroy; Jonas Nycander; Christian Stranne; Aurélien Ponte; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Internal waves; Tides; Argo floats; Time series analysis; Flow-topography interaction; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Abstract : Tidal currents flowing over rough bathymetry generate internal tides. These internal waves with tidal frequency can be decomposed into vertical modes. Low modes generally travel thousands of kilometers, until they break due to shear flow instabilities, while high modes are believed to break close to the generation site. READ MORE

  4. 19. Interaction of Segments along Rifts that Separate Continents and Ridges that Spread Ocean Floors

    Author : Tatiana Tentler; Christopher Talbot; Olivier Dauteuil; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; extension; oceanic floor; rift; normal fault; segment; interaction; propagation; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The face of the Earth is constantly renewed by continental rifts that open and allow ridges to spread oceanic floor. Both types of these linear extensional structures are morphologically and structurally segmented. This thesis aims to provide insights into the interaction of such segments as they propagate and mature. READ MORE

  5. 20. Marine environmental governance and management in Sweden from the 1960s until today : Did the actions suit the needs?

    Author : Kjell Grip; Sven Bolmqvist; Kjell Larsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; International programmes on ocean and seas; Baltic Sea; Kattegat-Skagerrak; Marine spatial planning and management; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates how governance and management relevant to the use and protection of the marine environment has emerged in Sweden from the 1960s until today. Focus is on how the modern environmental and nature conservation administration in Sweden developed the legal and organizational frameworks needed for proper management. READ MORE
