1. Strategies for remediation of very large deposits of mine waste : the Aitik mine, Northern Sweden
Abstract : The Aitik mine, near Gällivare in Sweden, is the largest copper mine in Europe with an annual production exceeding 18 Mt of ore. After processing of the ore the residual waste material, so called tailings, are deposited in a tailings pond. In addition, 15 - 25 Mt of barren waste rock is mined annually in order to provide access to the ore. READ MORE

2. Pit lake water quality and hydrology : Insights from case studies and modelling of pit lakes in northern Sweden
Abstract : As extraction techniques are improving an increased number of low grade deposits can be economically mined. However, this also means that the number of open pit mines will increase and as a result the number of pit lakes as well. READ MORE

3. On the Operational Efficiency in Open Pit Mines
Abstract : Open pit mines constitute more than half of global minerals production. Yet most of the large, high-grade, and close to the surface deposits have been depleted or are currently in production. Besides, volatility in commodity prices and stringent environmental regulations limit the up-scaling expansions in large open pits. READ MORE

4. Mathematical Optimization Models and Methods for Open-Pit Mining
Abstract : Open-pit mining is an operation in which blocks from the ground are dug to extract the ore contained in them, and in this process a deeper and deeper pit is formed until the mining operation ends. Mining is often a highly complex industrial operation, with respect to both technological and planning aspects. READ MORE

5. Effectiveness of reclamation by backfilling and sealing at Kimheden open-pit mine, northern Sweden
Abstract : Reclamation of mine sites is a very recent concept on the scale of mining history. It involves the prevention or mitigation of the environmental impacts from mining, and the establishment of sustainable post-mining uses of the land. READ MORE
