  1. 1. Some aspects of non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment : with emphasize on liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions

    Author : Young Jo Kang; Du Sichen; Takahiro Miki; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusions; ladle refining; vacuum degassing; ladle glaze; spinel; SiO2 activity; agglomeration; cold model; open-eye; inclusion removal; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis was to study non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment. Emphasize was mostly given to liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions. A series of industrial experiments were carried out at Uddeholm Tooling AB, Hagfors, Sweden. To gain an insight into the industrial findings, laboratory investigations were also performed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Study on some phenomena of slag in steelmaking process

    Author : Liushun Wu; Sichen Du; Carlo Mapelli; KTH; []
    Keywords : Slag viscosity; calcium fluoride; fluid viscosity with particles; mixture viscosity; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The present work is to study slag phenomena in steelmaking process. In order to attain thegoal, a number of high temperature experiments and simulation experiments were carried out. Four master slags were used to study the effect of CaF2 on slag viscosity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Formation of Inclusions and their Development during Secondary Steelmaking

    Author : Mikael Thunman; Du Sichen; Piotr Scheller; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metallurgical manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Al–O relations in iron were investigated. Pure iron with varying Al content was equilibrated at 1873 K. The oxygen content of iron with higher Al content than 1.0 mass % was found to be much lower than previous works, while the oxygen content for Al content less than 1 mass% was found to be slightly higher. 5. 5. Influence of Stirring on the Inclusion Characteristics during Vacuum Degassing in a Ladle

    Author : Charlotte Médioni; Pär Jönsson; Robert Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum degassing treatment; inclusions; ladle eye; stirring intensity; denitrogenization; desulphurization.;

    Abstract : Steel cleanliness as a function of stirring practice during vacuum degassing treatment have been investigated in industrial studies at the steel plants of SSAB Special Steels in Oxelösund and Uddeholm AB in Hagfors. The cleanliness was examined with regards to the contents of sulphur, nitrogen and large inclusions (>10µm). READ MORE
