  1. 1. Towards sustainable solid waste management in Jordan

    Author : Mohammad Aljaradin; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Solid Waste Management; Public Participation; Recycling; Landfilling; Jordan;

    Abstract : Jordan is a country with a growing population that is undergoing rapid modernization. The increased volume of solid waste and associated logistical difficulties, the steady growth in the cost of waste management and the risk to human health are sources of concern. READ MORE

  2. 2. Waste Heat Driven Membrane Distillation for Industrial Wastewater Treatment

    Author : Imtisal-e- Noor; Andrew R. Martin; Olli Dahl; Mikel Duke; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Membrane Distillation; Experimental investigations; Techno-economic; Wastewater; Flue gas condensate; Waste heat; District heating; Nano-electronics; Cogeneration; Sustainable development; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The European Union has placed a high priority on reaching the goals described in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This aim has provided added momentum to member-state environmental regulatory authorities to further tighten the discharge limits of industrial wastewater. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Waste to Wealth: Transforming Biorefineries into Platforms to Valorize Low-Quality Residues

    Author : Miguel Sanchis Sebastia; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biorefinery; Animal Bedding; Waste Textiles; Biomass; Biotechnology; Process Design;

    Abstract : The transition to a bioeconomy, in which resources from biowaste could be reclaimed for the production of chemicals, materials or fuels, could contribute to the establishment of a sustainable society by replacing fossil fuels as raw materials. The core of this bioeconomy would be biorefineries, which are similar to petroleum-based refineries, but are facilities where biowaste is processed and refined through different chemical and/or biochemical processes. 4. 4. Strategies for remediation of very large deposits of mine waste : the Aitik mine, Northern Sweden

    Author : Manfred Lindvall; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The Aitik mine, near Gällivare in Sweden, is the largest copper mine in Europe with an annual production exceeding 18 Mt of ore. After processing of the ore the residual waste material, so called tailings, are deposited in a tailings pond. In addition, 15 - 25 Mt of barren waste rock is mined annually in order to provide access to the ore. READ MORE

  5. 5. Combined heat and power plant flexibility - Technical and economic potential and system interaction

    Author : Johanna Beiron; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combined heat and power; Flexibility; Process optimization modeling; Electricity price volatility; Waste to energy; Combined cycle; District heating; Dynamic modeling;

    Abstract : The share of variable renewable energy sources in electricity generation systems is expected to increase, leading to increased variability in the load that must be provided by conventional power plants or other flexibility measures. Thus, thermal power plants need to consider implementation of technical measures that enhance flexibility; to maintain profitability of operation with increased electricity price fluctuation, and to support electricity system stability.
