  2. 2. Simulations of directionality effects and optical forces in plasmonic nanostructures

    Author : Vladimir Miljkovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comsol multiphysics; optical forces; nanoparticles; nanowires; DDA; surface plasmons; Green’s function; Mie theory;

    Abstract : With the rapid development of nanoscience and nanotechnology, surface plasmonics based on metal nanoparticles and nanostructures gain increasing interest, not only for fundamental scientific studies, but also for optical and sensor applications. At the nanoscale, the physical and chemical properties of metal particles, especially their optical properties, strongly depend on size and shape, as well as on the surrounding media and structures. 3. 3. Atomic transport in optical lattices

    Author : Henning Hagman; Claude Dion; Daniel Comparat; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Ultra-cold atoms; optical lattice; laser cooling; directed transport; Brownian motor; Brownian motion;

    Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and theoretical investigations of fluctuation-induced transport phenomena, presented in a series of nine papers, by studies of the dynamics of cold atoms in dissipative optical lattices. With standard laser cooling techniques about 108 cesium atoms are accumulated, cooled to a few μK, and transferred into a dissipative optical lattice. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Imaging for Nanowire Mechanics

    Author : Monica Lexholm; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sensor applications; optical imaging; nanowire mechanics; Fysicumarkivet A:2010:Lexholm;

    Abstract : In this work, we present a stroboscopic detection technique for the study of oscillating nanoscale objects. This optical read-out gives a position accuracy better than 1 nm which is a fraction of both the diffraction limit and the pixel size. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimization of resonant all-dielectric nanoparticles for optical manipulation and light management

    Author : Nils Odebo Länk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FDTD; Nanophotonics; Metasurfaces; Optical Forces; All-dielectric; Perfect Absorption; Silicon;

    Abstract : The resonant interaction between light and matter lies at the heart of nanophotonics research. In particular, nanoparticles that possess optical resonances in the visible spectral range have been avidly studied and employed for various technical and biological applications in the last two decades.
