  1. 1. Optical Efficiency of Low-Concentrating Solar Energy Systems with Parabolic Reflectors

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maria Brogren; Uppsala universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; Photovoltaic cells; Photovoltaic-thermal systems; Parabolic reflectors; Optical properties; Reflector materials; Optical efficiency; Accelerated ageing; Outdoor ageing; Building-integrated photovoltaics; Teknisk fysik; TECHNOLOGY Engineering physics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Solar electricity is a promising energy technology for the future, and by using reflectors for concentrating solar radiation onto photovoltaic cells, the cost per produced kWh can be significantly reduced. The optical efficiency of a concentrating system determines the fraction of the incident energy that is transferred to the cells and depends on the optical properties of the system components. 2. 2. Optical Turbulence Characterization for Ground-Based Astronomy

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Susanna Hagelin; Uppsala universitet.; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; site testing; atmospheric effects; turbulence; optical turbulence; applied meteorology; mesoscale models; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences Meteorology; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap Meteorologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Astronomy and astrophysics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Astronomi och astrofysik; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : The optical turbulence, which creates perturbations of the wavefronts coming from the stars, is caused by small-scale fluctuations in the index of refraction of the atmosphere and is a problem for astronomers because it limits the maximum resolution of the ground-based telescopes. One way of identifying the best sites to build astronomical observatories, where the influence of the optical turbulence is as small as possible, is to use the standard meteorological parameters to get a first idea of the potential of a site. 3. 3. Model-based Approaches to Diffuse Optical Imaging and Dosimetry

    University dissertation from Division of Atomic Physics, Department of Physics, Faculty of Engineering, LTH, Lund University

    Author : Johan Axelsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2009]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; photodynamic therapy; diffuse light propagation; fluorescence; imaging; dosimetry; inverse problem;

    Abstract : The work within this thesis investigates Photodynamic therapy and Fluorescence imaging for therapeutics and visualization of deeply embedded lesions. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality that can eradicate tumors when light, a photosensible drug and oxygen are present. READ MORE

  4. 4. Windows Optical Performance and Energy Efficiency

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Joakim Karlsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Materialvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY Materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis treats angle-resolved optical properties and the energy efficiency of windows. A theoretical evaluation of optical and thermal properties of windows is briefly surveyed and the energy performance of a large selection of windows, under different conditions, is examined. In particular, angle dependent optical properties are analysed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Nonlinear localization in discrete and continuum systems : applications for optical waveguide arrays

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköpings universitet

    Author : Michael Öster; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : An introcludion to the formation of coherent structures in spatially discrete and continuous systems is given. Of special interest is the phenomenon of nonlinear localization, where the self-focusing of an excitation is balanced by a dispersive process. READ MORE
