  1. 1. Spectral Management in Quasi-Phase-Matched Parametric Devices

    Author : Mikael Tiihonen; Fredrik Laurell; Jean-Jaques Zondy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical parametric devices; nonlinear optics; ultraviolet generation; mid-infrared generation; optical parametric oscillator; optical parametric generator; optical parametric amplifier; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Nonlinear optical interaction in quasi-phase-matched structures opens up unique possibilities to build compact and efficient parametric devices such as optical parametric oscillators, generators, and amplifiers with tailored spectral properties. The focus of this thesis is on novel parametric interactions with periodically-poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) as the parametric gain medium. READ MORE

    Author : Anna Fragemann; Fredrik Laurell; Ebrahim-Zadeh Majid; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; optical parametric amplification; optical parametric generation; optical parametric oscillation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of engineered nonlinear crystals from the KTiOPO4 (KTP) family as the gain material in optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), with the aim to achieve more knowledge about the benefits and limitations of these devices. The work aims further at extending the possible applications of OPAs by constructing and investigating several efficient and well performing amplifiers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optical Parametric Devices in Periodically Poled LiTaO3

    Author : Martin Levenius; Katia Gallo; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Giuseppe Leo; KTH; []

    Abstract : Optical parametric frequency conversion based on quasi phase matching (QPM) in nonlinear optical crystals is a powerful technique for generating coherent radiation in wavelength ranges spanning from the mid-infrared (mid-IR) to the blue, displaying low thermal load and high efficiency.This thesis shows how QPM in one- (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) lattices can be employed to engineer novel devices for parametric downconversion in the IR, af-fording freedom in designing both spectral and angular properties of the parametric output. Author : Gustav Strömqvist; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Peter Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; nonlinear index of refraction; double tungstates; periodic poling; KTiOPO4; quasi-phase matching; parametric down-conversion; mirrorless optical parametric oscillators;

    Abstract : Material and structure engineering are increasingly employed in active optical media,in this context defined as media capable of providing laser or/and optical parametric gain. For laser materials, the main aim of the engineering is to tailor the absorption and emission cross sections in order to optimise the laser performance. READ MORE
