  1. 1. Spectral Management in Quasi-Phase-Matched Parametric Devices

    Author : Mikael Tiihonen; Fredrik Laurell; Jean-Jaques Zondy; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical parametric devices; nonlinear optics; ultraviolet generation; mid-infrared generation; optical parametric oscillator; optical parametric generator; optical parametric amplifier; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Nonlinear optical interaction in quasi-phase-matched structures opens up unique possibilities to build compact and efficient parametric devices such as optical parametric oscillators, generators, and amplifiers with tailored spectral properties. The focus of this thesis is on novel parametric interactions with periodically-poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) as the parametric gain medium. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optical parametric amplification with periodically poled KTiOPO4

    Author : Anna Fragemann; Fredrik Laurell; Ebrahim-Zadeh Majid; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; optical parametric amplification; optical parametric generation; optical parametric oscillation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of engineered nonlinear crystals from the KTiOPO4 (KTP) family as the gain material in optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs), with the aim to achieve more knowledge about the benefits and limitations of these devices. The work aims further at extending the possible applications of OPAs by constructing and investigating several efficient and well performing amplifiers. READ MORE

    Author : Jie Li; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear distortion; optical pulse shaping; dispersion-management; eye-diagram; cross-phase modulation; optical sampling; optical fiber applications; multiplexing; parametric amplification; demultiplexing; optical pulses; fiber optical communication; nonlinear systems; time division multiplexing; four-wave mixing; polarization-mode dispersion; optical signal processing; fiber optical nonlinearities; fiber ring laser; soliton robustness; mode-locking; optical filters; networks;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with short optical pulse generation from actively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber ring lasers (ML-EFRL) and their applications in all-optical signal processing (optical sampling and switching) and transmission experiments for high-capacity fiber optic systems. In future ultra-high bit-rate optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems, one of the key requirements is to develop reliable optical pulse sources that can generate high quality optical pulses. 4. 4. Nanosecond tandem optical parametric oscillators for mid-infrared generation

    Author : Markus Henriksson; Fredrik Laurell; Gunnar Rustad; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nonlinear optics; optical parametric oscillators; quasi-phase matching; mid-infrared; linewidth narrowing; volume Bragg gratings.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses a new scheme for generating radiation in the mid infrared spectral region, especially the 3.5-5 µm range. The scheme uses established Nd3+-lasers at 1.06 µm and down conversion in nonlinear optical crystals. READ MORE

    Abstract : Optical parametric frequency conversion based on quasi phase matching (QPM) in nonlinear optical crystals is a powerful technique for generating coherent radiation in wavelength ranges spanning from the mid-infrared (mid-IR) to the blue, displaying low thermal load and high efficiency.This thesis shows how QPM in one- (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) lattices can be employed to engineer novel devices for parametric downconversion in the IR, af-fording freedom in designing both spectral and angular properties of the parametric output.
