    Author : Li-Li Yang; Qingxiang Zhao; Magnus Willander; Jinghai Yang; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ZnO nanorods; size-controllable growth; post-annealing; optical properties; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : One-dimensional ZnO nanostructures have great potential applications in the fields of optoelectronic and sensor devices. Therefore, it is really important to realize the controllable growth of one-dimensional ZnO nanostructures and investigate their properties. READ MORE

  2. 17. Phase Noise Tolerant Modulation Formats and DSP Algorithms for Coherent Optical Systems

    Author : Jaime Rodrigo Navarro; Sergei Popov; Gunnar Jacobsen; Richard Schatz; Xiaodan Pang; Oskars Ozolins; Gabriella Bosco; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical communications; carrier phase recovery; blind phase search; circular quadrature amplitude modulation; CmQAM; coherent optical communications; digital signal processing; carrier phase estimation; equalization enhanced phase noise; EEPN; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Coherent detection together with multilevel modulation formats has the potential to significantly increase the capacity of existing optical communication systems at no extra cost in signal bandwidth. However, these modulation formats are more susceptible to the impact of different noise sources and distortions as the distance between its constellation points in the complex plane reduces with the modulation index. 3. 18. Optical Turbulence Characterization for Ground-Based Astronomy

    Author : Susanna Hagelin; Anna Rutgersson; Elena Masciadri; Valentina Zitelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; site testing; atmospheric effects; turbulence; optical turbulence; applied meteorology; mesoscale models; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : The optical turbulence, which creates perturbations of the wavefronts coming from the stars, is caused by small-scale fluctuations in the index of refraction of the atmosphere and is a problem for astronomers because it limits the maximum resolution of the ground-based telescopes. One way of identifying the best sites to build astronomical observatories, where the influence of the optical turbulence is as small as possible, is to use the standard meteorological parameters to get a first idea of the potential of a site. 4. 19. Provisioning Strategies for Transparent Optical Networks Considering Transmission Quality, Security, and Energy Efficiency

    Author : Amornrat Jirattigalachote; Lena Wosinska; Paolo Monti; Biswanath Mukherjee; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transparent optical networks; routing and wavelength assignment; physical-layer impairments; signal quality; differentiation of services; physical-layer attacks; power equalizers; Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure GRASP ; green networks; energy awareness; dedicated path protection; shared path protection; survivable WDM networks;

    Abstract : The continuous growth of traffic demand driven by the brisk increase in number of Internet users and emerging online services creates new challenges for communication networks. The latest advances in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology make it possible to build Transparent Optical Networks (TONs) which are expected to be able to satisfy this rapidly growing capacity demand. 5. 20. Photonic MEMS for optical information technologies

    Author : Carlos Errando-Herranz; Kristinn B. Gylfason; Wolfram Pernice; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Micro-electro-mechanical systems MEMS ; photonics; silicon photonics; photonic integrated circuits PIC ; lithium niobate photonics; ring resonator; polarization beam splitter PBS ; microfluidic integration; lab-on-chip LoC ; optical beam steering; nonlinear optics; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik; Fysik; Physics; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) combine hundreds of optical components on a chip, and can enable fast communications, high-performance computing, and improved sensing. PICs, made by miniaturized optical waveguides, require many reconfigurable elements to enable programmable functionalities and to compensate for fabrication variations and environmental factors.
