6. Magnetic Properties of Epitaxial Metal/Oxide Heterostructures
Abstract : The work in this dissertation is devoted to tailoring and studying magnetic properties of epitaxial metal/oxide heterostructures. The aim is to understand the fundamental principles governing these properties and how they affect each other. The acquired knowledge can prove useful for the development of future spintronic devices. READ MORE

7. The effect of nano-confinement on hydrogen uptake in metallic superlattices
Abstract : The absorption of hydrogen is exothermic in vanadium whereas it is endothermic in iron and chromium. Investigations of the hydrogen uptake within Fe/V(001) and Cr/V(001) superlattices allow therefore a detailed exploration of finite size effects and the influence of boundaries on hydrogen absorption. 8. Theory and Applications of Coupling Based Intensity Modulated Fibre-Optic Sensors
Abstract : Optical fibre sensors can be used to measure a wide variety of properties. In some cases they have replaced conventional electronic sensors due to their possibility of performing measurements in environments suffering from electromagnetic disturbance, or in harsh environments where electronics cannot survive. 9. Multilayer neutron optics based on isotope-enriched 11B4C
Abstract : The work in this thesis covers the design, growth and characterisation of neutron multilayers. The achieved reflectivity performance of a neutron multilayer depends on the achieved optical contrast between the layers as well as the achieved interface width between the layers. READ MORE

10. 11B4C containing Ni/Ti neutron multilayer mirrors
Abstract : The work in this thesis covers the design, growth and characterisation of neutron multilayers. The performance of these multilayers is highly dependent on the obtained interface width between the layers, even a modest improvement can offer a substantial increase in reflectivity performance.
