  2. 2. Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanostructures

    Author : Juris Prikulis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; surface plasmon resonance; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; near-field optical microscopy; optical tweezers;

    Abstract : Noble metal structures with size in the sub 100 nm range exhibit extraordinary optical properties due to collective oscillations of conduction electrons, the surface plasmon resonances (SPR). The most remarkable feature of these structures is the ability to redistribute electromagnetic radiation and concentrate strong fields near the surface. READ MORE

    Author : Vasyl Denysenkov; KTH; []
    Keywords : ferrites; thin films; ferromagnetic resonance; microwaves; FMR spectrometer; magnetic anisotropy; magnetostatic waves;

    Abstract : This thesis compiles results of research in two mutuallydependent parts: 1) development of ferromagnetic resonance(FMR) spectrometer to study microwave properties offerromagnetic materials, and 2) characterization of new irongarnets: pulsed laser deposited Y3Fe5O12and Bi3Fe5O12films and Ce:Y3Fe5O12single crystal.First part describes a novelBroadbandFMRSpectrometerdesigned to characterize thin ferromagneticfilms. 5. 5. Atomic transport in optical lattices

    Author : Henning Hagman; Claude Dion; Daniel Comparat; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Ultra-cold atoms; optical lattice; laser cooling; directed transport; Brownian motor; Brownian motion;

    Abstract : This thesis includes both experimental and theoretical investigations of fluctuation-induced transport phenomena, presented in a series of nine papers, by studies of the dynamics of cold atoms in dissipative optical lattices. With standard laser cooling techniques about 108 cesium atoms are accumulated, cooled to a few μK, and transferred into a dissipative optical lattice. READ MORE
