  1. 6. Economically Optimal Values and Decisions in Iranian Forest Management

    Author : Soleiman Mohammadi Limaei; Peter Lohmander; Sjur Didrik Flåm; Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Iranian Caspian forests; stumpage price; growth function; stochastic dynamic programming; dynamic game theory; Nash equilibrium;

    Abstract : Stumpage price processes are estimated via regression analysis (with alternative autoregressive models) with data from the Iranian Caspian forests. The parameter estimates indicate that the stumpage price may be regarded as a stationary stochastic process.    The optimal harvest decisions were calculated via stochastic dynamic programming. 2. 7. Studies on instability and optimal forcing of incompressible flows

    Author : Mattias Brynjell-Rahkola; Dan S. Henningson; Ardeshir Hanifi; Philipp Schlatter; François Gallaire; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrodynamic stability; optimal forcing; resolvent operator; Laplace preconditioner; spectral element method; eigenvalue problems; inverse power method; direct numerical simulations; Falkner–Skan–Cooke boundary layer; localized roughness; crossflow vortices; Blasius boundary layer; localized suction; helical vortices; lid-driven cavity; cylinder flow; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : This thesis considers the hydrodynamic instability and optimal forcing of a number of incompressible flow cases. In the first part, the instabilities of three problems that are of great interest in energy and aerospace applications are studied, namely a Blasius boundary layer subject to localized wall-suction, a Falkner–Skan–Cooke boundary layer with a localized surface roughness, and a pair of helical vortices. 3. 8. Structure-Exploiting Numerical Algorithms for Optimal Control

    Author : Isak Nielsen; Daniel Axehill; Anders Hansson; Eric Kerrigan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Numerical Optimal Control; Model Predictive Control; Riccati Recursion; Parallel Algorithms; Low-Rank Modifications; Parametric Programming; Optimization; Explicit MPC; Moving Horizon Estimation; Partial Condensing;

    Abstract : Numerical algorithms for efficiently solving optimal control problems are important for commonly used advanced control strategies, such as model predictive control (MPC), but can also be useful for advanced estimation techniques, such as moving horizon estimation (MHE). In MPC, the control input is computed by solving a constrained finite-time optimal control (CFTOC) problem on-line, and in MHE the estimated states are obtained by solving an optimization problem that often can be formulated as a CFTOC problem. 4. 9. Numerical studies of transtion in wall-bounded flows

    Author : Ori Levin; Dan Henningson; Nikolaus Adams; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer; suction; wall jet; streaks; waves; periodic disturbance; localized disturbance; turbulent spot; algebraic growth; exponential growth; stability; transition thresholds; transition prediction; PSE; DNS; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Disturbances introduced in wall-bounded flows can grow and lead to transition from laminar to turbulent flow. In order to reduce losses or enhance mixing in energy systems, a fundamental understanding of the flow stability and transition mechanism is important. READ MORE

  5. 10. Stability and transition of three-dimensional boundary layers

    Author : Seyed Mohammad Hosseini; Ardeshir Hanifi; Vassilios Theofilis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Receptivity; stability; optimal growth; three-dimensional boundary layers; crossflow instability; roughness control; freestream turbulence; secondary instability;

    Abstract : A focus has been put on the stability characteristics of different flow types existing on air vehicles. Flow passing over wings and different junctions on an aircraft face numerous local features, ranging from different pressure gradients, to interacting boundary layers. READ MORE
