  1. 1. Optimal and Hereditarily Optimal Realizations of Metric Spaces

    Author : Alice Lesser; Svante Janson; Lars-Erik Persson; Anders Johansson; Vincent Moulton; Pierre Flener; Charles Semple; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Applied mathematics; optimal realization; hereditarily optimal realization; tight span; phylogenetic network; Buneman graph; split decomposition; T-theory; finite metric space; topological graph theory; discrete geometry; Tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis, consisting of an introduction, four papers, and some supplementary results, studies the problem of finding an optimal realization of a given finite metric space: a weighted graph which preserves the metric's distances and has minimal total edge weight. This problem is known to be NP-hard, and solutions are not necessarily unique. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimizing Networked Systems and Inverse Optimal Control

    Author : Han Zhang; Xiaoming Hu; Elias Jarlebring; Yiguang Hong; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Networked systems; energy optimal consensus control; semi-definite programming; distributed optimization; inverse optimal control; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the problems of optimizing networked systems, including designing a distributed energy optimal consensus controller for homogeneous networked linear systems, maximizing the algebraic connectivity of a network by projected saddle point dynamics. In addition, the inverse optimal control problems for discrete-time finite time-horizon Linear Quadratic Regulators (LQRs) are considered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimal input design for nonlinear dynamical systems : a graph-theory approach

    Author : Patricio E. Valenzuela Pacheco; Cristian R. Rojas; Roland Hildebrand; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Input design; Markov chains; system identification; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Optimal input design concerns the design of an input sequence to maximize the information retrieved from an experiment. The design of the input sequence is performed by optimizing a cost function related to the intended model application. Several approaches to input design have been proposed, with results mainly on linear models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Variation Control in Virtual Product Realization - A Statistical Approach

    Author : Kristina Wärmefjord; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quality control; contact modeling; Variation simulation; welding simulation; spot welding sequence; inspection point reduction; fixture repeatability;

    Abstract : All manufacturing processes are afflicted by variation, which leads to products that may not fulfill assembly, functional or esthetical requirements. The variation in the final product originates from variation in individual parts and assembly processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Model-Based Design and Virtual Testing of Steer-by-Wire Systems

    Author : Marcus Irmer; Margot Ruschitzka; Karin Thomas; Hermann Henrichfreise; Thorsten Brandt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mechatronic systems; vehicle dynamic systems; steer-by-wire systems; modeling; model reduction; optimal control theory; robust controller synthesis; robustness analysis;

    Abstract : Driven by the need for automation and autonomy as well as the need to reduce resources and emissions, the automotive industry is currently undergoing a major transformation. Technologically, this transformation is addressing a wide range of challenges and opportunities. READ MORE
