  1. 1. System studies of the use of industrial excess heat

    Author : Sarah Broberg Viklund; Magnus Karlsson; Mats Söderström; Semida Silveira; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; excess heat; waste heat; surplus heat; energy systems; greenhouse gas emissions; energy efficiency; energy policy; system studies;

    Abstract : Energy, materials, and by-products, can be exchanged between companies, having positive effects in the form of improved resource efficiency, environmental benefits, and economic gains. One such energy stream that can be exchanged is excess heat, that is, heat generated as a by-product during, for example, industrial production. READ MORE

  2. 2. Simulation model of a ship’s energy performance and transportation costs

    Author : Fabian Tillig; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speed optimization; energy efficiency; wind-assisted propulsion.; performance prediction; energy systems model; ship design;

    Abstract : Society faces a major challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit the effects and propagation of climate change. As the main contributor to global trade, the shipping industry adds significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions and must actively work towards reducing, or eliminating, emissions in a short period. 3. 3. Bio-coal for the sustainable industry : A scientific approach to optimizing production, storage, and usages

    Author : Aekjuthon Phounglamcheik; Kentaro Umeki; Markus Broström; Capucine Dupont; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Bio-coal produced from biomass is a promising material to replace fossil coal in order to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emission from the industrial sector. Bio-coal with quality comparable to that of fossil coal can be produced by high-temperature pyrolysis at ≥500 ºC, but the production efficiency is relatively low due to low bio-coal yield at high pyrolysis temperatures. 4. 4. Cost-Effective Industrial Energy Systems : Multiperiod Optimization of Operating Strategies and Structural Choices

    Author : Katarina Nilsson; Mats Söderström; Roland Wimmerstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : It is of great importance to encourage the development of cost-effective industrial energy systems as the potential for saving energy and capital in industrial applications often is substantial. The MIND method has been developed for multi-period cost optimization of industrial energy systems. 5. 5. Process integration to increase woody biomass utilization for energy purposes

    Author : Sennai Mesfun; Francesco Fantozzi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Woody biomass is an abundant renewable energy resource in Sweden, and the Swedish government has been promoting research and development programs for the exploitation of this resource as a mean to meet the targets on the reduction of the carbon dioxide emissions from the industrial, energy and transportation sectors. This thesis aims at expanding the knowledge on the efficient utilization of the available woody biomass, so that a larger amount of this renewable resource can be used for energy purposes. READ MORE
