1. Pulmonary Drug Absorption : In vitro and in vivo investigations of drug absorption across the lung barrier and its relation to drug physicochemical properties
Abstract : Although, pulmonary drug delivery is a well established means for targeting of drugs to the lungs for the treatment of respiratory diseases as well as for the systemic delivery of volatile anesthetic agents, drug absorption kinetics in the lung have not been subjected to extensive research. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate drug absorption characteristics of the lung barrier, using the isolated and perfused rat lung model and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rats. 2. Drug Analysis : Bioanalytical Method Development and Validation
Abstract : This thesis describes bioanalytical methods for drug determination in biological matrixes, with drugs in focus used against diseases largely affecting low-income countries. Solid-phase extraction is used for sample cleanup, and processed samples are analyzed by liquid chromatography. READ MORE

3. Hazards of Drug Therapy : On the Management of Adverse Drug Reactions: From Signal Detection and Evaluation to Risk Minimization
Abstract : Spontaneous reporting systems (SRSs) for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) have been developed as a result of the thalidomide disaster, whereby thousands of children world-wide were born with birth defects. The Swedish Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee was established in 1965. READ MORE

4. New Approaches to Studies of Paracellular Drug Transport in Intestinal Epithelial Cell Monolayers
Abstract : Studies of intestinal drug permeability have traditionally been performed in the colon-derived Caco-2 cell model. However, the permeability of these cell monolayers resembles that of the colon rather than that of the small intestine, which is the major site of drug absorption following oral administration. 5. Nasal Drug Delivery : In Vitro Studies on Factors Influencing Permeability and Implications on Absorption
Abstract : Nasal delivery is a feasible alternative to oral or parenteral administration for some drugs because of the high permeability of the nasal epithelium, rapid drug absorption across this membrane and avoidance of hepatic first-pass metabolism. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate factors influencing the permeability of the nasal mucosa to various compounds and to evaluate implications for drug absorption via the nasal route.
