  1. 1. From Order to Disorder in High Temperature Superconductors

    Author : Anders Vestergren; KTH; []
    Keywords : physics; condensed matter;

    Abstract : Phase transitions in a number of models related to hightemperature superconductors are investigated, using scalingmethods and Monte Carlo simulations. This thesis considers twomain topics. READ MORE

  2. 2. Resistivity and the solid-to-liquid transition in high-temperature superconductors

    Author : Beatriz Espinosa Arronte; Magnus Andersson; Charles Simon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high-temperature superconductors; vortex dynamics; vortex solid-to-liquid transition; critical scaling; glass transition; Bose glass; heavy-ion irradiation; YBCO; Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 d; oxygen deficiency.; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In high-temperature superconductors a large region of the magnetic phase diagram is occupied by a vortex phase that displays a number of exciting phenomena. At low temperatures, vortices form a truly superconducting solid phase which at high temperatures turns into a dissipative vortex liquid. READ MORE

  3. 3. Defect Engineering in Kesterite Materials for Thin Film Solar Cells

    Author : Katharina Rudisch; Jonathan J. Scragg; Alain Lafond; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CZTS; thin film solar cells; defect engineering; composition-spread films; order disorder transition; intrinsic defects; secondary phases; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Abstract : Cu2ZnSnS4 has great potential to be applied as an earth abundant and non-toxic absorber material in thin film solar cells, based on its suitable optical properties. However, several challenges have prevented the achievable efficiencies from exceeding 12.6 %, which is well below marketable efficiencies compared to competing solar cell technologies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Magnetic Order in Artificial Structures

    Author : Unnar B. Arnalds; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Sveinn Ólafsson; Vassilios Kapaklis; Hartmut Zabel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the investigation of the magnetic properties of artificially created magnetic structures. Applying different characterization techniques, ranging from direct imaging methods to reciprocal space techniques, the properties of lithographically patterned arrays of magnetic thin film and multilayer elements are investigated by exploring their magnetic state, extending from the atomic scale up to collective ordering phenomena of nano-magnetic elements. 5. 5. Biophysical characterization of protein-protein interactions involving intrinsically disordered proteins

    Author : Ida Nyqvist; Jakob Dogan; Ivarsson Ylva; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Intrinsically disordered proteins; Protein-protein interactions; Disorder-to-order transition; Rate-limiting transition state; Ф-value analysis; NMR relaxation; Side-chain dynamics; Backbone dynamics; Conformational entropy change; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Intrinsically disordered proteins and regions (IDPs/Rs) are proteins that do not form stable and well-defined structures in their free states but rather occupy an ensemble of conformations that change over time while still staying functional. They are prevalent in the eukaryotic proteome and are involved in various vital processes in the cell where they often interact with their binding partners through coupled binding and folding reactions.
