  1. 1. There and back again... An Earth magneto-tale : understanding plasma flows in the magnetotail

    Author : Alexandre De Spiegeleer; Maria Hamrin; Herbert Gunell; Timo Pitkänen; Colin Forsyth; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma dynamics; Earth magnetosphere; magnetotail; plasma sheet flows; oscillatory flows; burst bulk flows; tailward flows; rymdfysik; Space Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik; Space and Plasma Physics;

    Abstract : On average, the Earth's magnetotail plasma sheet seems to be a calm region of the magnetosphere where the plasma moves slowly towards Earth. However, the plasma sheet actually hosts many phenomena, some of which can affect Earth. READ MORE

  2. 2. Urban heavy metals : Stocks and flows

    Author : Louise Sörme; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Heavy metais; urban areas; Substance flow analysis; inflow; stock; outflow; diffuse emisson; waste; wastewater treatment plant; legislation; Tungmetaller; miljöaspekter; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : Levels of heavy metals in different media are high today, both in Stockholm and other urban areas. Where do the metals come from? Production emissions and point sources are not the answer, since earlier research has shown that production emissions are lower than emission from goods during use (the diffuse emission). READ MORE

  3. 3. Turbine Outlet Guide Vane Flows

    Author : Johan Hjärne; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Spalart-Allmaras model; k-ω SST model; linear cascade; secondary flows; turbine exhaust casing; RSM; k-ε realizable model; turbine rear frame; engine mount bump; tail bearing housing; Outlet guide vane;

    Abstract : New design goals on modern jet engines often leads to more highly loaded turbines with fewer stages in order to save weight and cost. This gives higher swirl angles into the outlet guide vane (OGV), implying a more difficult aerodynamic design. READ MORE

  4. 4. A new high-order method for direct numerical simulations of turbulent wall-bounded flows

    Author : Peter Lenaers; Arne Johansson; Hans Kuerten; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Incompressible wall-bounded flows; direct numerical simulations; high-order; compact finite differences; collocated grid; influence matrix method;

    Abstract : A new method to perform direct numerical simulations of wall-bounded flows has been developed and implemented. The method uses high-order compact finite differences in wall-normal (for channel flow) or radial direction (for pipe flow) on a collocated grid, which gives high-accuracy results without the effectfof filtering caused by frequent interpolation as required on a staggered grid. 5. 5. Essays on Derivatives and Liquidity

    Author : Caihong Xu; Lars Nordén; Björn Hagströmer; Hans Byström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Index options; volatility smile; liquidity; index futures; expiration-day effects; limit order book; trading patience; order flows; gold futures; hedging; företagsekonomi; Business Administration;

    Abstract : This dissertation contains four essays in which derivatives markets are studied in relation to three related topics in financial economics: asset pricing, market microstructure and risk management.Essay I studies the role of relative option liquidity in explaining the volatility smile.
