  1. 1. On Rank-invariant Methods for Ordinal Data

    Author : Yishen Yang; Sune Karlsson; Elisabeth Svensson; Rolf Larsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ordinal data; rank-invariance; systematic change; agreement; association; inter-rater reliability; ranking; Spearman; multi-item scale; Statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : Data from rating scale assessments have rank-invariant properties only, which means that the data represent an ordering, but lack of standardized magnitude, inter-categorical distances, and linearity. Even though the judgments often are coded by natural numbers they are not really metric. READ MORE

    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Landscape connectivity; Conservation corridor; Stepping stones; Effective distance; Geographic Information Systems; Raster data; Land evaluation; Suitability analysis; Cost surface; Suitability surface; Ordinal scale; Least-cost path; Spatial resolution; Landskapsanslutning; Bevarandekorridor; Stegbräda; Effektivt avstånd; Geografiska informationssystem; Rasterdata; Markutvärdering; Lämplighetsanalys; Kostnadsyta; Lämplighetsyta; Ordinal skala; Lägsta kostnadsväg; Rumslig upplösning; Geoinformatik; Geoinformatics;

    Abstract : In recent decades, Rwanda has been affected by the loss and fragmentation of natural habitats for native species of animals and plants. As a consequence, landscape connectivity—i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nonparametric tests for comparing two treatments by using ordinal data

    Author : Helen Wahlström; Elisabeth Svensson; Jan Lanke; Sture Holm; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistik; change; clinical trial; Monte Carlo; ordered categorical data; paired data; permutation test; Pitman efficiency; power; stratification; ties; visual analogue scale; Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney statistic; statistik; Statistics; Statistik; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns four nonparametric tests for comparing two treatments in a randomized controlled clinical trial when the main response variable generates discrete or continuous ordinal data and measurements are made at baseline and follow-up. In the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test (WMW) the baseline values are not taken into account at all, but in the other three tests both baseline and follow-up values are used. READ MORE

  4. 4. Essays on the Performance of Fire and Rescue Services

    Author : Henrik Jaldell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; efficiency; productivity; public sector; intermediate output; panel data; stochastic frontier; data envelopment analysis DEA ; Malmquist; ordinal output; ordered probit;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introduction and five separate papers. All papers deal with measuring performance for the Swedish fire and rescue services. The first paper describes the production process of fire safety, while Papers 2-5 are empirical analyses measuring performance for some aspects of that process. READ MORE

  5. 5. JIA (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) in the Nordic countries. Aspects of classification, epidemiology and pain assessment

    Author : Lillemor Berntson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arthritis; juvenile; rheumatoid; juvenile chronic arthritis; classification; heredity epidemiology; incidence; pain assessment; rating scales; VAS; ordinal data;

    Abstract : Different classification criteria for chronic arthritis in childhood have been used in different parts of the world, which has made comparison between studies difficult. In 1995, a new set of classification criteria was proposed by the ILAR (International League of Associations for Rheumatism) to overcome such difficulties and to create more homogenous subgroups.
