  1. 1. Applications of organ culture of the mouse inner ear

    Author : Diana Berggren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; organ culture; embryonic inner ear; intercellular junctions; aminoglycosides; statoacoustic ganglion; intermediate filaments; collagen; endolymph;

    Abstract : The embryonic mouse inner ear was used as a model with which to study ototoxicity and tissue interactions. The inner ear anlage can be explanted and cultured in vitro from about the 12th gestational day (gd), and will differentiate parallel with the inner ear developing in vivo until a time corresponding to birth (21st gd). 2. 2. Aiway Mucins: experimental models for studies of secretions

    Author : Naila Svitacheva; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cystic fibrosis; bovine trachea; radiolabelling; cell line; primary cell culture; organ culture; mucus; mucin; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Mucins are essential components of the mucosal barrier. The complexity of the airway mucosal barrier is reflected in the lack of specific treatments to block mucin hypersecretion associated with several respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and cystic fibrosis. 4. 4. Phenotypic modulation of vascular smooth muscle in organ culture

    Author : Anders Lindqvist; Islet cell physiology; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; smooth muscle; proliferation; PDGF; Physiology; energy metabolism; calcium; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Contraction of blood vessels for the regulation of blood flow and pressure is dependent on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) located in the medial layer of the vascular wall. Adult, differentiated VSMC have a well developed contractile system and a low rate of proliferation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Altered expression of contractile endothelin receptors in the vascular bed

    Author : Mikael Adner; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; upregulation; transcriptional regulation; smooth muscle cells; plasticity; organ culture; Endothelin; receptor; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at characterizing the endothelin (ET) receptors in different vascular beds of man and rat. The ET-A receptor was shown to be the only contractile ET receptor present in all vascular regions, with the exception of the rat mesenteric vein where a weak ET-B receptor-mediated contraction was seen.
