  1. 36. Preservation of fertility through cryopreservation and in vitro maturation of human ovarian follicles and oocytes

    Author : Julius Hreinsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Oocyte; maturation in-vitro; cryopreservation; ovarian follicles; culture; IVM; preservation of fertility;

    Abstract : One of the most rapidly expanding fields in assisted reproduction is the preservation of fertility for young women at risk of premature ovarian failure. This may be caused by cytotoxic therapy or other reasons. Cryopreservation of follicles in ovarian tissue has been successful in animal models with live young being born. READ MORE

  2. 37. The developing rat kidney : the dopamine system and related serine/threonine kinases and phosphatases

    Author : Johan Svennilson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : apoptosis; confocal immunofluorescence; DARPP-32; dopamine; foetal renal development; hypertension; in situ hybridization; metanephric culture; mouse; nephron number; PKC; PP1 PP2A; protein phosphorylation; rat;

    Abstract : The kidney originates from the fusion and conversion of two tissues: the metanephric mesenchyme and the ureter epithelium, an evagination from the Wolffian duct. Although a number of candidate molecules have been shown to be of importance for the differentiation of the embryonic kidney, many of the signalling pathway leading to this development are still obscure. 3. 38. Importance of MAPK and PKC in cerebrovascular endothelin receptor changes

    Author : Marie Henriksson; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; toxicology; pharmacy; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Fysiologi; Physiology; cerebral arteries; ischemia; receptors; endothelin; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : Endothelin is a vasoactive peptide that exerts its effect through two receptors; the endothelin type A (ETA) and type B (ETB) receptor. The contractile ETA receptor is localized on smooth muscle cells in the vascular wall, while the ETB receptors are mainly situated on endothelial cells, mediating vasodilatation. READ MORE

  4. 39. Artificial testis to study early gonadal development and germ cell differentiation

    Author : Ahmed Reda; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Studying the early germ cell development is of great significance, as germ cells transfer the genetic material between generations. However, in humans, this type of studies in vivo is not applicable, for obvious ethical reasons. READ MORE

  5. 40. rd1 Photoreceptor Degeneration: Photoreceptor Rescue and Role of Metalloproteases in Retinal Degeneration

    Author : Poonam Ahuja Jensen; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; retinal degeneration; Survival factors; metalloproteases;

    Abstract : The thesis is focused on an attempt to delay photoreceptor cell death in the rd1 mouse using Lens Epithelium Derived Growth Factor (LEDGF), Glutathione S-Transferase mu (GST-?? and Glutathione S-Transferase alpha (GST-?? in an organ culture paradigm as well as the role of metalloproteases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors in photoreceptor degeneration (TIMPs). The rd1 mouse model displays a retina degeneration which starts around day 10 with rod photoreceptor cell death. READ MORE
