  1. 21. Radiotherapy for head and neck cancer : costs and benefits of time, dose and volume

    Author : Karin Söderström; Björn Zackrisson; Werner Dubrowsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; adjuvant treatment; accelerated fractionation; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Background In the treatment of head and neck cancers (HNCs), radiotherapy (RT) has the advantage of organ preservation compared to surgery. However, treatment toxicities associated with RT can affect important functions for everyday life, both in the acute and late stage. READ MORE

  2. 22. Transcriptome-wide analysis in cells and tissues

    Author : Sanja Vickovic; Afshin Ahmadian; Itai Yanai; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA-sequencing; single cells; spatially resolved transcriptomics; 3D profiling.; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : High-throughput sequencing has greatly influenced the amount of data produced and biological questions asked and answered. Sequencing approaches have also enabled rapid development of related technological fields such as single-cell and spatially resolved expression profiling. READ MORE

  3. 23. Fetal Cardiac Function and Venous Circulation - Experiences with Velocity Vector Imaging

    Author : Charlotte Dahlbäck; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pregnancy; fetus; strain; speckle tracking; cardiac function; umbilical vein; venous; ductus venosus; Doppler;

    Abstract : Placental dysfunction resulting in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a common complication of pregnany and severe IUGR, with ensuing fetal hypoxia is an important cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Doppler studies of fetal and maternal vessels are routinely used for fetal surveillance and alterations in fetal venous blood flow has been demonstrated as a late sign of fetal compromise. READ MORE

  4. 24. Severe Head Injury. Evaluation of Acute Treatment and Rehabilitation

    Author : Christer Eker; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; cerebral blood flow; neuropsychological test; assessment of motor and process skills; rehabilitation; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; intracranial pressure; Severe head injury; intensive care;

    Abstract : Mortality after severe head injury can be considerably reduce with a therapy using physiological principles for brain volume regulation and preserved microcirculation, with the main purpose of restricting the rise in ICP to reasonable levels simultaneously with preservation of adequate blood supply. This study shows that the ?Lund Concept? can reduce mortality in patients with severe traumatic brain lesions from 47% to 8%. READ MORE

  5. 25. A minimally invasive axial blood flow pump : an experimental and clinical study

    Author : Urban Lönn; Howard Frazier; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Axial blood flow pump; Hemopump; LVAD; Beating heart CABG; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The first aim of this thesis was to evaluate a new minimally invasive axial blood flow pump for treatment of patients needing circulatory support after open heart surgery. This system, the Hemopump temporary cardiac assist device, is a very small catheter mounted intracorporeal pump, which is introduced transvalvularly into the left ventricle. READ MORE
