  1. 1. In silico Identification of Thyroid Disrupting Chemicals : among industrial chemicals and household dust contaminants

    Author : Jin Zhang; Patrik Andersson; A. Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Liang-Hong Guo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thyroid disruption chemicals; virtual screening; tranthyretin; thyroid hormone receptor; QSAR modeling; molecular docking; molecular dynamics;

    Abstract : Thyroid disruptions by xenobiotics have been associated with a broad spectrum of severe adverse human health effects, such as impaired brain development and metabolic syndrome. Ingestion of indoor dust and contact with industrial chemicals are two significant human exposure routes of thyroid hormone disrupting chemicals (THDCs), raising serious concerns for human health. 2. 2. Optimizing and evaluation of a methacholine provocation test : with application in occupational research

    Author : Britt-Marie Sundblad; Bengt-Eric Skoogh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Airway responsiveness; methacholine provocation; nitric oxide; eucapnic hyperventilation; organic dust; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : We have developed a methacholine provocation method, which detects bronchial responsiveness in more than 80% of healthy subjects. The method enables us to detect differences in bronchial responsiveness within the normal range. With this method FEV1 and Gaw had similar sensitivity in detecting small differences in bronchial responsiveness. READ MORE

  3. 3. Self-rated health and respiratory symptoms among civil aviation pilots : Occupational and non-occupational risk factors

    Author : Xi Fu; Dan Norbäck; Christer Janson; Berndt Stenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Civil Aviation; Aircraft pilot; Indoor environment; Self-rated health SRH ; Respiratory health; Asthma; Rhinitis; Headache; Fatigue; Insom-nia; Body mass index BMI ; Sense of Coherence SOC ; Psychosocial work environment; Quantitative PCR; Fungal DNA; Volatile organic compounds of microbial origin MVOC ; Cat allergen; Dog allergen; Horse allergen;

    Abstract : There is concern about the indoor environment in aircraft but few stud-ies exist on self-rated health (SRH) and respiratory symptoms among pilots. Occupational and non-occupational risk factors for SRH, respira-tory symptoms and other symptoms among commercial pilots were investigated in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regional studies of the optical, chemical and microphysical properties of atmospheric aerosols : Radiative impacts and cloud formation

    Author : Admir Créso Targino; Douglas Nilsson; Radovan Krejci; Richard Leaitch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric aerosols; particles; optical properties; cloud; ice crystals; chemical composition; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Atmospheric particles are ubiquitous in the Earth’s atmosphere and have potential to influence atmospheric chemistry, visibility, global climate and human health, particularly downwind from major pollution sources. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate questions pertaining to the microphysical, chemical and optical properties of aerosol particles by using in situ data collected during four experiments carried out in different regions of the Northern Hemisphere. 5. 5. Design and Fabrication of Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells

    Author : Andreas Sandström; Ludvig Edman; Ronald Österbacka; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Light-emitting electrochemical cell; fabrication; organic semiconductors; organic electronics; ambient fabrication; roll-to-roll; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Glödlampan, en gång symbolen för mänsklig uppfinningsförmåga, är idag på väg att försvinna. Lysdioder och lågenergilampor har istället tagit över då dessa har betydligt längre livstid och högre effektivitet. READ MORE
