  1. 1. Enols and Allylic Alcohols as Building Blocks in Synthetic Organic Chemistry : Experimental and Theoretical Studies

    Author : Alba Carretero Cerdán; Belén Martín‐Matute; Shu-Li You; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Base catalysis; Ion-pair; Isomerization; MOFs; Hypervalent Iodine III ; DFT; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The present thesis describes computational and experimental studies used to drive the reactivity of allylic and enol substrates towards new transformations. These synthetic methods give access to a number of organic molecules that may serve as important moieties in synthetic organic chemistry. READ MORE

  2. 2. Organocatalytic Domino Reactions

    Author : Henrik Sundén; Armando Córdova; Pavel Kočovský; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organocatalytic; domino; iminium-enamine; enamine-iminium; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Organocatalyzed reactions involving activation strategies of ketones and aldehydes are important processes in organic chemistry. These activation strategies serve as a versatile platform for the construction of several domino reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis of Ring-fused Peptidomimetics : Interacting with Amyloid Fibrils

    Author : Dan E. Adolfsson; Fredrik Almqvist; Anna Linusson; Morten Grötli; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic chemistry; synthesis; peptidomimetics; thiazoline fused 2-pyridones; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson s disease; Amyloid; Amyloid-beta; alfa-Synuclein; method development; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease are the two most common neurological disorders in humans. Both conditions involve progressive death of neurons in the central nervous system, decline in bodily functions and eventually (and invariably), death. So far, no cure exists and the available treatments can only ease symptoms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Design and Synthesis of Inhibitors Targeting the Aspartic Proteases HIV-1 PR and BACE-1

    Author : Jenny Adrian Meredith; Bertil Samuelsson; Ulf Ellervik; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of molecules designed for inhibition of two aspartic proteases, viral HIV-1 PR and human BACE-1. It also reports on the structure activity relationships of the targeted enzyme inhibitors. It is estimated that currently 33 million people are infected with HIV, the causative agent of AIDS. 5. 5. Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigation

    Author : Katrin Ahlford; Hans Adolfsson; Martin Wills; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymmetric catalysis; reduction; amino acid; rhodium; mechanistic investigation; kinetic study; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The development of ligands derived from natural amino acids for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of prochiral ketones is described herein. In the first part, reductions performed in alcoholic media are examined, where it is found that amino acid-derived hydroxamic acids and thioamides, respectively, are simple and versatile ligands that in combination with [RhCp*Cl2]2 efficiently catalyze this particular transformation.
