    Author : Marcel Quarfood; Dugald Murdoch; Camilla Serck-Hanssen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Kant; things in themselves; transcendental idealism; perspective; intelligible world; epigenesis; biological functions; teleology; organism; antinomy; regulative maxim; discursivity; acquisitio originaria; Philosophy subjects; Filosofiämnen;

    Abstract : The notion of the organism has a somewhat ambiguous status in Kant’s philosophy. On the one hand it belongs to natural science, on the other hand it is based on an analogy with the structure of reason. Biology therefore has a peculiar place among the sciences according to Kant: it is a natural science constituted by the use of a regulative maxim. READ MORE

  2. 2. Imagining the Organic City : Modern Tropes of Organization

    Author : Meike Schalk; Kenneth Olwig; Sven Olov Wallenstein; Helena Mattsson; M Christine Boyer; Faculty of Landscape Architecture Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences SLU Alnarp; []
    Keywords : organic; organism; types; evolution; city; society; biology; Patrick Geddes; urban design; metabolism; organization;

    Abstract : The thesis examines three ’organic tropes’ of modern architecture and urban design, addressing different crucial moments of change within modernist discourse. Attention is focused on the institutionalization of ‘town planning’ at the turn of the last century; the shift during the post-war years; and the beginning of urban debate in Japan during the early 1960s. Abstract : Background: Healthcare personnel (HCP) often experience undesirable working conditions. Risk behaviours for organism transmission can lead to healthcare associated infections and risk behaviours has been described to be influenced by working conditions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on Islet Amyloid Polypeptide Aggregation : From Model Organism to Molecular Mechanisms

    Author : Sebastian Schultz; Gunilla Torstensdotter Westermark; Anne Simonsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The proper folding of a protein into its defined three--?dimensional structure is one of the many fundamental challenges a cell encounters. A number of tightly controlled pathways have evolved to assist in the proper folding of a protein, but also to aid in the removal of misfolded proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Saccharomyces castellii: A new model organism for telomere research

    Author : Eimantas Astromskas; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naumovia castellii; Saccharomyces castellii; yeast; genetic tools; gene targeting; telomere; CDC13.; telomeric overhang;

    Abstract : Telomeres are natural ends of eukaryotic chromosomes and perform a major role in cell biology. They protect chromosomes from degradation, fusions and the end replication problem. To study telomeres different model organisms are used including a number of yeast species. READ MORE
